Just now I have a very persistent cold-type thing. It`s mainly cattarh - I`m very `chesty`, with a persistent cough, and my whole head feels blocked up. I`m doing what I can to get rid of it, but I think that I`ll just have to sit it out.
The thing is, my mood is bad - well, it`s almost always bad, but - it`s lower than it`s been (on a regular basis) for a while.
Can the viral thing have contributed to this? I saw a doctor last week, and he reckoned it could. I just wanted to check it out with another source.
Can anyone help?
Ta,
Anna.

The only way to really know what's going on in your body is through medical testing. I would suggest a DNA-PCR test.

This almost always happens to me when I'm sick too. I don't know why but I've come to expect it and not to panic. At least I stop panicking once I figure out that I've got a bug.

Sal,
Could you explain why you think this test is appropriate? Since there is no test for depression I don't see how this could answer whether the virus caused the bad mood. And that was the question.

Thanks for that. I just wish the bloody thing would go away - every time it seems like it`s on it`s way out, it comes back again. I can`t take any medications for it, as I`m taking anti-d medication, and I reckon that I`d really benefit from some kind of decongestant/expectorant cough medicine, whatever.
Anyway - thanks a lot for replying,
Anna.

I do know I get suicidal if I catch the flu, and my pdoc said that is because high interfereon levels in the brain *are* depressing. ..

Anna - There have been some interesting studies linking the immune system to the HPA axis (body's stress control system; who's breakdown is thought to be connected to depression). Circulating cytokines (enzymes involved in the immune response) seem to be connected to depression (ie. higher levels of certain cytokines seem to be associated with depressive relapse). I don't think that there has been any definitive link, but there does seem to be some association, in certain forms of depression.
I hope that this is of some help. - Cam

^^^^^^^^^^No, you don't have to "sit it out"! Why should you when you can get rid of it with this drug called AUGMENTIN.
What you have sounds very much like a sinus infection, which is whacking most people I know in the Tri-State area (NY, NJ, CT).
I had this Goddamn thing for three weeks now, and tried plain, old generic AMOXICILLIN, which did nothing. I started with AUGMENTIN (a whopping dose of AMOXICILLIN combined with CLAVULANATE POTASSIUM), and felt better within 24 hours.
And, yes, of course being sick will affect your moods. Have you ever known a happy sick person?
