I know that some ADs cause strange dreams so when I started on Serzone, I paid close attentention to my dreams, anticipating a change. I've always dreamed in color but after starting Serzone I noticed a black and white dream and then another. Now all my dreams are in black and white. The strange thing is I've quit the Serzone and have been on Effexor for 6 weeks; still no color. Anyone else notice a change in their dream color scape?

all these drugs play withyour brain in ways not understood...think of the brain as a volume with lots of channels for various transmitters..colour is processed in another area that seperates the frequencies...perhaps the serzone is providing a bit more pull the left side of the visual cortex where imaginations dont come out..and states are reduced to smaller spaces..(color is very costly...but very helpfull in spatial navigation.
If this is the only problem you have believe me youre lucky indeed..if the drugs help your life reach the level of better health.

I have taken every antidepressant but a few and the ones that cause the most intense vivid dreams were Serzone, Effexor (most esp.), and Remeron. Serzone I just noticed just more of the same. With Effexor they were very vividly colored and almost nightmarish, with Remeron I noticed a lot of lucid dreaming (waking in the morning and going back to the same dream).

Hi,
I wonder if your waking mental imagery is colorless as well. Can you see in you mind's eye a red tomato, or a pink elephant? If you can, then your dreamcolor (black and white) is part of the dream meaning, and your perceptual systems are not affected per se.My waking imagery was black and white when I was severely depressed. Dream images were not even black and white but a dull spectrum of gray. I wasn't even able to achieve crisp black and white contrasts. dreams were like seeing the world through a buttered lens. amazing.

wow! i never thought the color change was connected to the ad's, but in the last 6 months or so i have noticed that my dreams are all color-challenged - not exactly black and white, but more like they take place in the dark, although i can see everything that's going on. i can't recall seeing any color for a while. when i was on serzone, and then depakote, my dreams were just incredibly intense and vivid and seemed to go on all night long, also going into lucid dreaming. on wellbutrin the dreams have calmed down some. i kinda miss those dreams. . .
