Help! I have a question about Zyprexa and weight gain. I'm taking it (hopefully just temporarily until my normal sleep cycle returns) and I have heard it causes weight gain -- my question is this - does Zyprexa make you have more of an appetite so you wind up eating more and gain weight that way or does just taking it and NOT giving in to hunger and cravings somehow automatically cause weight gain?
My appetite has changed - I now feel much hungrier and sometimes it feels like no matter what I eat, I'm not satiated. Ack ... I'd appreciate hearing from anyone who can answer this question. (in the meantime, I'm going to drink water, a lot more water, when I feel hungry because pounds are starting to creep back up on me). Thanks.

> -JanelleHi Janelle. I did a search and it appears that Zyprexa does create more of an appetite, and eating more is the main cause of weight gain. If you are wanting to eat tons more AND are always thirsty on Zyprexa, you are recommended to get an evaluation of glucose levels regarding diabeties. I don't know how common that is.
If you can fight the hunger, or step up your exercise program, if that is possible, then you have a good chance of not putting on extra weight. But is it really difficult, as you know, to fight those cravings! Good luck.

For me, I could not eat enough while I was on the Zyprexa. The Zyprexa gave me an insatiable appetite that I then fed. I already had issues with my eating have ts and there was no amount of willpower that was going to keep me from eating. I ended up gaining 70 pounds in a short period of time. I admire those who are able to see through the bad signals that Zyprexa is giving them, and are able to just eat what their bodies need, keep up on the exercise and maintain their bodies while on the med. I was emotionally unable to do so.
Good luck.
