hi. I just started 37.5 mg of effexor today at noon. I am wondering when side effects for a med are supossed to kick in? I think I remember something about the first 2 weeks but I am not sure. I also read somewhere that side effects from effexor are supossed to show during the first day. so I just would like to know when I can expect these side effects and the worst of them. When I was on the paxil 20mg for 24 days I had almost no side effects except anorgasmia.
so it makes me wonder that maybe I will also have very little side effects on effexor.
Since starting it I have felt a bit different. I dunno how to describe it. But pessimistic feelings due to depression seem to have gone away for now or at least limited. The way I feel is a bit different also. I dont know how to describe it. as if I am more detached than when i was off the meds, yet feeling somewhat at ease despite being very depressed. I guess it will just take time for the true anti depressant effect to kick in. I am very hopeful the effexor might be a good med for me. we will see.
it's a strange feeling that I have now. as if i am not fully awake yet I am fully awake. As if I am in a different world than everyone else. I just feel a little detached. Oh well. I will see how this goes. It's all hard to describe.

I now want off of the medication because of the side effects. I have nausea, indigestion, bladder leakage, elevated blood pressure and on an on. The medication helps my depression, but I can't deal with the side effects. If you have any doubts about this medication, if I were in your shoes, I wouldn't take anymore. I wish I could go back and make that decision again!

I was on Effexor XR last year, weaned off, relapsed and am now back on. I only had minor side effects that diminished over time, like dry mouth, feeling a little jittery. When I weaned off last year I had very little withdrawl symptoms. Effexor XR has been a wonderful drug for me, it worked rather quickly when I was in a major depressive episode and was having a LOT of anxiety and panic attacks. If you are concerned about what side effects you may experience I suggest you ask your pharmacist. Personally, I did not look at the side effects when I first started because it was clear I NEEDED medication, so what was the use. After I noticed dry mouth etc, then I looked them up. Anyway, good luck to you. I hope this AD works as well for you as it did for me.

The "frequent" side effects documented on the web include some pretty horrific neurological symptoms; some of these symptoms are dangerous, and, unfortunately, most people don't think these symptoms could possibly be from an "antidepressant. I'm here to say that the side effects while on Effexor have changed my life. Even more unfortunate are the withdrawal symptoms I've suffered from getting off this drug. I'm down to 37.5 mg q 3 days and would
DC altogether if I could, but at about day 3 off of it, I get these shock-like feelings through my body, dizziness and flu-like symptoms, which are unbearable. I certainly can't work under these conditions. Good luck to those who are surrending their emotional lability to this drug. There are many who claim this to be a wonder drug; I, however, wonder why I ever took it. I'd rather be depressed than go through all of these rollercoaster feelings and side effects (now withdrawals). T.T.> >

It's important to remember that everyone is different. The web is full of horror stories about Prozac but I took it for years and the only real side effect I had was a diminished sex drive. Other than that, I thought it was an outstanding drug. It took away my depression, period. While there are plenty of people who say that Serzone is a wonder drug, it was a chemical lobotomy for me. I'm on Effexor now and I feel sublime. It works better for anxiety than any other med I've used. Also, many folks on this board report sedation on Effexor, while for me it's been very activating, I experienced insomnia for the first couple weeks. So, the moral of this post is everyone is different. One man's medication, is another man's poison.

I am having wonderful results on Effexor XR. Last week I went from 150mgs to 225mgs..I don't see any difference either in mood or side-effects on the higher dose.

I am with you on this. I believed so much in meds before effexor. I work with people on meds and have always recommended them, but I do so reluctantly now. I know that people with mania and psychosis need them, but I would really think about it if you are depressed. If you are suicidal of course you also need something. I have read articles about how these drugs were approved. Often, they barely beat placebos in research studies. More research needs to be done also on long term effects. My experience with effexor has been much like you with the emotional lability, apathy, chronic fatigue and body aches on 150mg. effexor. I am on my third week off of it. I could not work for 3 weeks. I am back now, but i am still struggling. What do we do when this totally effects our work. Bosses are only so understanding. I have a family to support and I dont know when I will fell at least "ok". I would certainly recommend against taking effexor long term unless you absolutely need it. Pay attention to your body while on it and if you have these side effects look into getting off with doctor's help. This is tough folks. I have hopes that I will be better some day, but who knows. I know God will lead me and he will use this, but I would not wish anyone to go through this. God bless you all and dont go on meds too quickly.
