I've been taking selegiline for a few weeks now, and it's working wonders for my depression and social phobia. The problem I'm having is unbearable insomnia. I've managed to steal about 10 hours of sleep over the last three days - and that's only on 5 mg/day. Does Klonopin reduce the insomnia and racing heart symptoms? Also, I just found out that the metabolites of selegiline are methamphetamine and amphetamine. This is problematis, because I am going to have to take a pre-employment drug screening next week. How long do these metabolites linger?
BTW - I ordered the selegiline over the internet from a European company. I don't have a prescription.
Any advice?

grendel,I would stop taking the selegiline until
you take the drug test. I believe it takes about
72 hours for amphetamine to pass through your
body. But just to be on the safe side,
give it a little more time.
I also have depression and social phobia and was
wondering how long it took for selegiline
to begin working for you and if there are any med or foods you should not take with it.

Maybe you can try some over-the-counter Benadryl (Diphenhydramine) for sleep. Benadryl is a mild hypnotic as well as an antihistamine.

'As for the drug tests - i wouldn't be concerned. They ask you to list any meds that you are on, or have taken in the last X days. Personally, I would just list selegiline - they should know about the metabolites - and if they don't, they'll learn quickly. You're not doing anything "illegal" or wrong - just play by their rules, and tell them what's in your system.

My concern is that they will find the amphetamine and methamphetamine in my urine from the selegiline, and they will ask me for a prescription or the name of the doctor who prescribed the selegiline, just to ensure that I'm not a street drug abuser trying to game the system. I got this stuff without a prescription over the internet, so I have neither a prescription nor a doctor's involvement.

Fwiw - I think I was taking meds when drug tested... They just had me list them, and didn't ask for any prescription... but amphetamine wasn't one of the metabolites...
Maybe you could call a lab or two - anonymously - and ask about that type of situation?

Unless you're taking a very large dose, from what I've read, the metabolites shouldn't register on a drug screen.
Good luck.
