Seeking Wellbutrin w/Effexor Experiences

Posted by PaintItBlack on August 9, 2001, at 16:15:48

I am starting a combination of Wellbutrin SR and Effexor XR. My doctor thinks it may be useful to start both at the same time. I've been on Wellbutrin before, but not noticed any difference. (My pdoc thinks there was a slight improvement.) I've been on low doses of Effexor, but slept through it, so who knows.

Anyone have useful experiences to share about this combo? Might they interact in a way that neither did by itself? Will I be able to think clearly (once my body adjusts to the chemicals)? Should I expect insomnia or somnolence? Will sex be possible, or even disireable? Who will win the Super Bowl?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Very good questions. I want to know the answers to all, except the Super Bowl one. On that, I want to be surprised.

Been on Effexor XR for about 5 weeks. At 225 mg/day for the past 3 weeks (of the 5). Still did not quite feel there ... a little somnolence, apathy, etc. Did not have depressed thoughts, though, almost immediately with the Effexor, even at smaller doses.

I have ADD symptoms as part of my Depression (or vice verse). So, I tried Adderall, in addition to the Effexor, but continued to have no lasting success with that, so I stopped.

3 days ago, I started Wellbutrin, in addition to the Effexor, using 150 mg in the a.m. and 150 mg in the p.m. of WB. Day 1 and 2, I crashed mid-day (i.e. nap). Maybe because of the napping, had trouble getting to sleep. But, last nite (Day 2), I felt really decent.

Day 3, today, I feel awake and alert and will not be napping. I can live with this feeling just fine. Not quite amazing, but really quite fine. I've had so many difficulties with meds, I hope that this will just plateau or improve as opposed to the usual crash and burn.

As far as sex goes, there is definitely (talkin' male here) significant delayed ejaculation due to the Effexor, which may not be a bad thing. It's too early to tell, but the Wellbutrin could counter that some.

Good luck and keep us posted.

hi,
I was on Effexor + wellbutrin for about 8 months. The Wellbutrin alone didn't help my depression, either -- the Effexor alone made me a complete zombie. Together, I was a LITTLE bit less fatigued, and my mood was better, but I was still pretty zombie-ish. Also, my sex drive never improved. :(

I ended up getting off of the Effexor -- am now on Prozac + Wellbutrin, which is definitely less sedating. Sex drive? Pretty nill.

Take care!

Well of course, the rams will win the super bowl. I am withdrawing from effexor and took wellbutrin, while getting off, but it was not good for me. I had terrible jaw pain with wellbutrin and not able to chew. It also increased my anxiety. All I can say is go off effexor slowly if you need to.
