...except 4 Dr B.
Just had *another* jumped-up, socially inadequate pdoc charge me £150 for the inspired advice of "stop smoking & look to the future". My dog could do better (& he's deaf with cataracts). Do these people have a death-wish or something (I warned him from the outset that I was paying *only* for his psychopharmacological "expertise" & *not* for any well-meaning 'advice')?
He was also was kind enough to make it clear I can only hope for *marginal* improvement ("We're aiming for 10%"). I've had it with these money-grabbin' know-nothing -------s.
Thank you for listening. It was either spark the guy or this (mini-rant). I *think* I chose the right option.
(a disillusioned) J.

Sounds like psych care in the UK stinks. Glad we don't have that anti-benzo stuff over here.....my pdoc says she has patients who have been on Klonopin for 15 years without raising the dose, no problem, she can't understand these anti-benzo people, who seem to be rampant in the UK.

Funny you should say that, Joe. I've been taking Klonopin for over a yr now for night-waking. Works great. Never had to increase the dose & can abstain w/o any rebound depression etc. My GP has no problem with it.
So what does this new idiot want to do today? He wants to take me *off* it (I told him where he could get *off*). Don't these people understand how destructive to yr life waking 10 or 20 times a night can be? His reasoning?
"All benzos are very addictive."

Yes, the mini rant was the better choice. So did this guy have *any* ideas? Are you considering buprenorphine? You're on lamictal and klonpin, and anything else? I'd think I'd go for the bup if I were you. But then again, this is coming from someone who is taking oxycontin for depression. And I did start parnate yesterday and I am feeling optimistic since I haven't had any side effects, but I'm expecting it to take at least a few weeks if not more to feel an AD affect.
What about hopping over to France for a consult?
take it easy, Shelli

Hi Shelli.
> Yes, the mini rant was the better choice. So did this guy have *any* ideas?Stop smoking pot. Look to the future. Get some structure into yr life. The incremental approach (a laughably flawed proposition. Y'know; start socialising a bit more etc & bit-by-bit you'll feel better. Right).
Also, raise the Lamictal (which I had done previously) and "see you in a month or two". See what I'm up against? This guy's supposed to be a specialist psycopharmacologist.
Also *very* disapproving of the fact that I kill time betting, despite the fact that it keeps my mind 'relatively' sharp & I consistently win.
I think he's gone against my wishes (& an agreement) & spoken to my previous pdoc, who was obsessed with my pot use, hence the new guy's altered approach.
> Are you considering buprenorphine?
*I* am. UK pdocs wont tho' :-(
>You're on lamictal and klonpin, and anything else?
Sulpiride (good 4 s. phobia) & now Prozac.
>I'd think I'd go for the bup if I were you.
I agree. This won't gain the approval of the more narrow-minded but I'm about to embark on a self-prescribed, brief 'opioids tour' *just* to see if they have the potential to help (don't worry; I have plenty of self-control). If they do (& I suspect they will, in a 'real' sense) I can then pursue things along official channels.
>But then again, this is coming from someone who is taking oxycontin for depression. [Good on ya] And I did start parnate yesterday and I am feeling optimistic since I haven't had any side effects, but I'm expecting it to take at least a few weeks if not more to feel an AD affect.
Good luck. I tried Parnate. Wierd drug. Felt quite good to begin with but anything over 25mg knocked me cold. And this, supposedly the most activating of the MAOIs (none of them were 4 me)!
> What about hopping over to France for a consult?
That's exactly what crossed my mind as I left his office. France (my French isn't too bad) or America (again).
Thanks & bonne nuit,
J.
