Has anyone gained a significant amount of weight that they can attribute to neurontin? If so, what dose were you taking when you gained the weight?

No weight gain whatsoever in seven weeks on 900mg but I also take Wellbutrin (although I was off it for a while).

gain started in at 1800 mg's.I am going to try and wean off soon. I'm hoping
that once I'm off it, it won't be _too_ hard to
get off. I'll let you know.

I have been on Neurontin for four months and gained 26 lbs. I have not changed my eating habits and was told I would LOSE weight on this medication, not gain. I am 5'8'' HF and my previous normal weight was 130. I am devastated by this weight gain and have fibromyalgia. Does anyone have any suggestions to how to lose weight or alternatives to Neurontin?

Move to Topamax - or just add it. It's the weight loss king...

Hi. I'm a 40 yr. old female 5'6'' 246 lb.who is ''clean'' for 5 days from neurontin. Why? because I gained 75 lbs, and I cannot stand it any longer. It was prescribed to me for my back and get this: the extra weight is killing me! Go figure that one out! I'm being treated for chronic back pain & the dope gives me something that causes weight gain and has a side effect of low back pain! Now how stupid is that? What I'd like to know is, will I lose the weight that I gained from being on neurontin, being that I stopped taking the medication? My Dr. put me on Topamax for the weight loss. I sure do hope it works. I also suffer from depression. Who wouldn't be depressed being so big. I thank anyone who comes up with answers to my questions. What is in neurontin that makes us gain so much weight? Also I'd like to thank Dr. Bob for this cool site so we all have a place to come to to air our gripes. THANK YOU DR. BOB! TUFFYS MOMMY

i have been on a combination antipsychotic(seroquel) and mood stabilizer (neurontin/gabapentin) for several years. for all the while i have been told by numerous doctors that the weight i have gained ... 60 lbs. (30 lbs. in two increments over three years)... has been due to the antipsychotic. perhaps not.
the weight gain seems to have ocurred in response to dose escalations in my neurontin and is exercise and diet unresponsive ... like antipsychotic induced weight gain.
i will attempt to switch to tiagabine and see if this has any effect on my weight.
i will let you know. does anyone have any insight on my dilemna ... gabapentin / tiagabine and weight?
This is the end of the thread.
