Pourin' sweat (sigh)

Posted by yo-wazzzup on July 23, 2001, at 21:24:13

Holy...doodle! I thought paxil & sweating was excessive. That was nothing compared to what I'm going through with effexor xr! I've only been on for 3 weeks but feel as though I'm gonna melt away! Worse than sitting in a sauna. I realize it could be summer heat but I've never sweat like this before so, I'm assuming the effexor isn't helping the issue. I'm due to increase my dosage to max...225mg or something like that. I'm sweating buckets on 75mg. UGGGG! Any one else experience this w/effexor? Does it subside or will it increase as dosage increases? Gotta go, I'm dripping on the keyboard :)

My mother called to inform me that women glow they do not sweat. My reply to her was I guess we're not women. She said that's right her shoulderblades are soaked and she's not on any drugs. It's the humidity which is making it so awful. The sweating from the drug does go away.

I'm wondering if it still isn't paxil withdrawal. I can't imagine anything taking your withdrawal from that away.

Yep. For me, this passed after a while. Now if I forget a dose or 2
it comes back full force for a day. Great positive reinforcement.
XR is better it this respect thab regular Effexor.

My sweaty tips:

1) Cotton everything. Cotton tee shirts under whatever are key.
This wicks the sweat away from your skin; sweat makes more sweat.
2) Kill that body hair. Electric clippers with a guard turn a bear into
a man.
3)This is one of the few times I recommend talc.
4)Key places to cool to stop sweating: Forehead, face, back of neck.
Misting water on the face and allowing to evaporate creates cooling.
Mix equal parts witch hazel and Evian if you want to get fancy.
Hats are out, the head is one big radiator.

Sal can provide some meds that can help with this short term, if it
is too icky. It should pass. Raise dose slowly to avoid this problem.
You must increase intake of fluids to make up for the sweating.

OK, When I saw sweat, I knew you were talking Effexor in this thread! LOL!

I'm tapering off of Effexor for other reasons (nasty sexual side-effects, "ie. no orgasm or numb orgasm when it does happen) but when I was on my 150mg/day of XR I did sweat more than usual. This side-effect was more pronounced early on in my treatment.

Also, I always had to watch my heart-rate while exercising on Effexor. My heart tended to feel like it was going to leap out of my chest if I worked-out with the same vigor as before Effexor. The sweating was awful during my work-outs too. My doc suggested I take breaks during work-outs and drink lots of water during work-outs... duh!!!

That seemed to do the trick for me.

Effexor XR completely alleviated my depressive symptoms. If it weren't for the lack of sexual response I would still be at 150mg/day.

I hope that this drug works for you. If it does not or the side-effects become unmanageable be sure to tell your pdoc right away!

"Certain Dri", found among the Antiperspirants, works well under the arms. They say that it works on the bottom of the feet also, but it may take a week or more. It's an alcoholic solution and is applied at night before sleep

Unfortunately, it's not just effexor - I'm taking Celexa and sweating heavily too, mostly from the
forehead, which sucks because beads of sweat get in my eyes and does it sting!
