There's a thread above mentioning having to go to MEXICO to get a med called Reboxetine, and I'm wondering what class of med this is and why is it not available in the U.S.?? Thanks to whoever can fill in these blanks for me.

It's an NRI. Works only or mostly for norepinephrine. Here is some information. I am really being hopeful that this will work well for me if it's my next choice.
---------
Reboxetine: a double-blind comparison with fluoxetine in major depressive disorder.Massana J, Moller HJ, Burrows GD, Montenegro RM.
Department of Psychiatry, Hospital Clinico de Barcelona, Spain.
The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy and tolerability of reboxetine, a uniquely selective noradrenaline reuptake inhibitor, with the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor, fluoxetine. A double-blind, randomized, parallel-group, multicentre design was employed. One hundred and sixty-eight patients with acute major depressive episodes were randomized to receive oral reboxetine (8-10 mg/day) or oral fluoxetine (20-40 mg/day). The treatment period was 8 weeks. Reboxetine and fluoxetine were similarly effective as assessed by the mean reduction in total Hamilton Depression Rating Scale score, the percentage of responders and patients in remission, Clinical Global Impression severity of illness and global improvement scores and Montgomery-Asberg Depression Rating Scale. A sub-analysis of patients with severe depression indicated that reboxetine had superior efficacy compared with fluoxetine. Both treatments resulted in some improvement in Social Adaptation Self-evaluation Scale total scores and this was more evident for those patients treated with reboxetine who achieved remission. Both treatments were well tolerated. The results indicate that reboxetine is an effective and well tolerated antidepressant, being more effective than fluoxetine in patients with severe depression, and more effective in terms of social functioning in those patients who achieved remission.

Also it is supossed to be a better choice for people with retarded depression. I think that means people with a severe symptom of lack of concentration/thinking ability. Which why it could work very well for me. I certainly hope.

Remember, take everything you read with a grain of salt. This is only an 8 week study, and stimulating antidepressants (One's that work on the Nor. or Dop. systems) usually give results faster, as opposed to SSRI's that can take up to 8 weeks to FINALLY start working. I find that Noradrenaline Reuptake drugs trigger mania and manic/depressive cycles much more easily than SSRI'S. Be careful, and good luck!

Hi all,
I live in europe, and I have been taking EDRONAX (Reboxetine) for !6 month. At the beginning, it worked very well. It is a "hughe brain booster" and woked right from the beginning I took it. But in the 3. or 4. month, things got strange and it developed into the wrong way. Seems like I got hooked up to it or something like this, and finally, if I look back after half a year, it made my depression much worse. I sure believe that the short term studies have a great results (like my own experience was), but wait to hear form the long term studies. Maybe the FDA is right. I would never take it again!!

Took Reboxetine for 2 years for fatigue [ live in uk ]
Initial reaction bad ~crying anger irritation. Then this eased a little so I thought it was doing it's job I certainly felt more energized well for a month or two then fatigue set in again but with horrific periods of depression.
Crying just got worse and anxiety got worse
Well took initiative and stopped and realised it was actually making me more tired also smoking many ciggarettes to ease the big anxiety.
The only positive thing I can say is I got a healthy compulsive disorder- cleaning, you couldn't stop me.
Now the dishes are waiting and cobwebs harbour dusty delights.
Hey, but this is just my xperience.

But I guess maybe it really isn't as good as it seems. Maybe good in the short term. Maybe really good even. But oh well. Wellbutrin I hope will be my great mind booster.
This is the end of the thread.
