I get unrelenting anxiety that can reach panic proportions. But it's free-floating. I don't really worry about anything specific, or at least I'm not aware of it. I've had success with SSRIs but they poop-out real fast, as did Moclobemide. I supplemented 40mg Prozac with 25mg Naltrexone with great success, but that too pooped out. Contrary to general experience, Xanax doesn't work for me. Alcohol is still the only thing that works reliably. Never tried GHB.
I want to to try Effexor XR, but as my doc hasn't heard of it he won't do it (I live in NZ).

I think you might have some success with Venlafaxine, Nefazodone, or Mirtazapine.

Thanks - Venlafaxine is what I'm trying to get my doc to prescribe. If that doesn't work I was then thinking of trying Neurontin or like you suggest Mirtazepine (Remeron?). I'm afraid Nefazodone was a great disappointment. No effect apart from strange side effects - not sexual ones though. Thanks for answering

Is it available in your country? If it is perhaps ask your doctor to contact the company or vice versa. Your symptoms sound similar to mine. I wasn't even aware of the anxiety until I was on the effexor for awhile and thus being free of it, then being able to say gosh it feels good not to feel it. I probably don't make any sense? But my anxiety was so generalized that I wasn't even able to pinpoint it. Well named.BEST WISHES

yes it's available in NZ but not subsidised. Thanks for your encouraging post. They used to call it 'nameless dread' when 'neurosis' was still used

There is no generic available so yes it can be expensive, here in Canada anyway. If cost is an issue try contacting the company, I think there are alternatives to paying.

Olden day diagnosis for me is "hysterical housewife." Kinda fits, hystercial housewife with nameless dread!
Best of Luck!

GHB works very much like alcohol but does not have the hangover are the toxic affects. If you can get it in NZ it is worth a try. It is
very ilegal in the U.S. this is the reason I do not use it for GAD any more.
