I'm only on 75 mg/day (half the therapeutic dose) and the last few days I've started feeling so stimulated after taking it, to the point of feeling caffeinated and having the shakes from drinking too much coffee (I stopped drinking coffee some time ago).
After a few hours it wears off, and I feel fatigued and yucky. I've been at this dose of EffexorXR about 2 weeks, after coming DOWN from higher one because it really raced me out. I'm wondering if anyone out there has felt overly stimulated, energized, activated by EffexorXR? Thanks.

I wish! I do remember when I started it did give me a strange sort of sensation, which could have been similar to what your describing except I was probably close to a comatose state energy wise. I increased my dosages by 37.5mg each time and the side effects last for almost a month. Are you taking it all in one dose? I found that when I started I had to take it twice a day, 37.5mg morning and late afternoon. The worst is the initial month. Is it helping you otherwise at all?

Hi Willow,
I had also been close to a comatose state energy wise, which Celexa lifted me out of (but I had side effects of bad headache, foggy/heavyhead, detached feeling that wouldn't go away, which is why I switched to Effexor).
I also increased my Effexor dosages by 37.5mg each time but I haven't been on it quite a month yet. I am taking 75mg all in one dose in the morning, but I have heard (as you mentioned) that some people have to take it in two separate doses, one in morning, other in the afternoon.
I'm glad for you that it is working well and you can even skip a day and not have a problem.
I'm "relieved" to hear that the worst is the initial month, because it IS helping with the depression, but again I think I've plateau'd and I don't think I could tolerate increasing the Effexor.
And since I've developed incredible insomnia, I most likely will go off the Effexor and onto a more sedating a-d that I can take at night.

yes i have felt this way and still do occassionally Im on 375 mg now, but before on 225mg I felt this way too. But it was however only initially, after I got used to I guess you could say the medication did it ware off. It was a really good feeling, adn i could feel my brain almost, and could tell when the feeling would ware off, then I would feel horriable and couldnt do anything. But it has passed (only get it sometimes but dont feel so down when it is over.

Yes, effexor is activating for me, although it sounds like you are very sensitive to these effects.
I quit caffeine and that helped. I also take serzone along with the effexor, and that counters these effects.

When I got on Effexor XR, I got on it at 37.5 and it still blew me away... Exactly the symptoms you describe... Heart racing, nervousness, plus I had this kind of numbness to my skin... Eventually this subsided... But it came right back when I upped the dosage to 75mg...I also split my 75 into two dosages one in the morning, one at bedtime... But I didnt like taking 3 diff things at bedtime (effexor, geodon and remeron) so I gradualy started taking the effexor closer and closer together... first at 9pm, then at 6pm, then all 75mg in the morning... I found that my body adapted pretty quickly to the 75mg, though it still is a tad ruff...
The effexor -never- made me somnolent... The remeron that I take at night, (15mg) pretty much takes care of that... To the extent that when I get up in the morning I'm still completely tired... Then I take the effexor which starts to wear on the somnolence... fun fun fun.

I HAD ABSOLUTELY THE SAME REACTION AS YOU BUT ON THE OLD NON-XR Preparation. I ended up stopping the med prematurely because it was interfering with work.

I don't get mad as easy, I feel more loving although I am really independent and have no sig other in my life. My concentration and thinking ability is better than it was, I have always had incredible concentration and thinking ability and focus when it comes to a job. It is in my personal life that I feel I have less control over. I am starting to take control over my life, depression has been in control for way to long. I was put on Effexor XR, because I no longer felt that Prozac, Paxil, Zoloft or Celexa helped like it used to. I have been using SSRI's for 13+ years. For more than a year, I merely existed. It is truly incredible to have a drug work well with my body chemistry. I have tried many drugs for depression, Effexor XR is truly different. If you decide to try Effexor, ask for XR and try and not let the side effects that you read on here scare you off. Everyone's body chemistry is different. I really wanted to shake the depression that I had been in for more than a year. My depression would come and go before but the last year, the depression never let up. I now have motivation, I had forgot how to live.

I started taking 37.5,75 and 150 dose of this drug. I have noticed sexual side effects. Can anyone share any information with me about this and does it subside after taking for a while? I am a 48 year old male.
