I used to take 2mg Ativan tid and I felt just fine but I'm not sure what dose of Klonopin is equivalent. I get the drug from a g.p. who isn't too sure either and has prescribed a tiny dose (0.5mg bid).

Klonopin is a little more potent than Ativan -- the equivalent (total daily) dose of Klonopin for you probably will be less than the dose of Ativan, but more than half the dose of Ativan. So if you're taking 6 mg of Ativan daily, you might need only 5 or even 4 mg of Klonopin. Also, many people can get away with taking Klonopin twice a day, since it lasts longer than Ativan (I personally find it works better if I take it three times a day). 1 mg/day isn't going to substitute for 6 mg/day of Ativan, regardless. I think that 1.5 mg twice a day would be a better place to start, considering the amount of Ativan you've been taking.

> -elizabethThanks. I'm not too worried since I've already been through the withdrawal which was hellish. Thankfully Klonopin is longer-acting. This was very helpful.

Check out the benzo equivalence charts in the PB tips section. Also do a web search for benzo comparison studies. There are quite a few out there.
