When discontinuing Remeron.

Is it recomended to taper off slowly when discontinuing Remeron?
Is Remeron more or less easy to disontinue than most SSRI's?

I really haven't heard of bad discontinuation reactions with Remeron like those seen with Effexor or Paxil. But do what your doctor recommends.

I felt no untoward effects after a trial, most recently at 45 mg/nite, of about 5 weeks, plus or minus.

I went off of it last august, and didn't taper from 60mg/night. I had a severe allergic reaction, where my nose just went crazy, and had to be put on a course of corticosteroids. My pdoc concluded it was rebound allergies-- I've noticed that I don't get my seasonal allergies on the remeron probably due to the effects it has on histamine. Other than that, I didn't have the terrible GI problems or anything else that goes along with SSRI discontinuation. So be careful and taper if you tend towards allergies.
