topiramate question

Posted by steve2 on June 20, 2001, at 23:12:34

I'd appreciate some advice. I have been on AD for depression for about 10 years. I am currently on Effexor XR 150 and I am generally hppy but have had gradual weight gain (which is unusual I hear on Effexor). I am almost 30 yrs old and the weight gain is getting out of control. Recently I heard that topiramate is being researched by J&J as a weight loss drug. My question: Does topiramate really cause weight loss? Is it *significant* weight loss? (also, yes, I have had my thyroid check and I have tried Wellbutrin & Prozac in the past)

Thanks for you thoughts.

has anyone out there tried topiramate? i am bi-polar II (mostly depression) with high anxiety/panic. adverse reactions to depakote and lithium. out of the 5 AD's i've tried, 4 of them bring on hypomania and high anxiety. anyone's experiences are appreciated. . . interested in whether it works for bi-polar II and anxiety/panic, side effects, and, of course, sucess stories! thanks. . .
