I recently started taking Serzone 150mg per day; but I've noticed something strange - when I wake up at night, i always seem to have an erection. It usually goes away after a few minutes, but then is back again the next time i awake. Unfortunately its not associated with any great sex dreams. I'm concerned that this is priapism, should I discontinue the serzone? I have no really good way to tell how long the erections last, just that they often seem to be there when I awake. (By the way, I never get this problem during the daytime, not inappropriately at least.)

Mark, Just a wild guess but it is probably more likely related to an increase in total, free and bio-available testosterone. Not that Serzone will increase T levels but if you've come off a more seratonergic drug your T levels, especially bio-available testosterone should be increasing for a while. Seratonergic drugs decimate T levels and it takes a while to get back to normal, after going off them. It is natural to have nocturnal erections if your T levels are normal. The body produces its supply of testosterone at night when you are sleeping.
But that's just my guess. Talk to your doctor!

I am only aware of trazadone being assoc with priapism, and very uncommon. I would consult with your doc on this to be sure. Actually this is pretty normal for all males. The fact that it is happening on this AD may bode well for it being free of the common negative sexual side effects many AD's have.
