Luvox tolerance?

Posted by Juan on June 10, 2001, at 21:08:11

I've been taking Luvox for about 6 years now, and lateley (about 3 months ago) I noticed that I was getting my OCD and Depression symptoms back again. I would increase the dosage, and all would be fine again. But then a few days later it was happenning again. THen my Dr. Prescribed Anafranil (25mg at night) to go along with the Luvox but I'm afraid of, well, basically, fucking up my liver and my brain for life. Has anybody gone through this experience? About 3 years ago, my Dr. tried to change me over to a new med (Prozac) but I could not take the withdrawal affects from the Luvox. They were horrible, and I'd rather die than go through that again!

I assure you that your liver will be fine, no matter what you do. The idea that drug changes or increases in doses has an effect on liver is not based on fact--rather it is based on "old wives' tales."

The switch to Prozac immediately may have been the right idea, since the serotonin might have quickly been replaced and your suffering ended fastidiously. In that case, you wouldn't even feel the withdrawal effects from Luvox. {If for some reason you still do, read in the Tips about Lithium for a bridge for antidepressant switch}.
