Celexa for anxiety

Posted by Glenda on April 18, 2001, at 10:48:14

My doctor has just put me on Celexa for anxiety. Is anyone out there taking it for anxiety? If so, how much are you taking? I have a very low tolerance for drugs. He started me on 10 mg daily. What about you?

I'm taking 30mgs for social phobia and depression. It works well enough. Side effects are slight. I have some transient nausea every now and then, but that could well be due to the fact that I live off gas station hotdogs.

In studies done with Celexa for anxiety, lower doses (10 or 20 mg) worked better than higher doses. (If one also has depression, then higher doses may be needed). Celexa works very well for my anxiety.

Hi

I've been taking 20mg Celexa for over 2 years. My diagnosis was Major Depression and my main complaint was excruciating anxiety. The Celexa started kicking in a week .....with noticeable decrease in my anxiety. For me whenever I start an SSRI it increases my anxiety and insomnia before it starts to reverse those symptoms. Everyone reacts differently .... just don't be afraid if you experience something like that.....I thought for sure I was going helplessly and incureably insane ...... which of course led to more panic and anxiety. My previous experience was with Paxil, that took 6 weeks to start diminishing my anxiety and then left me feeling sedated all the time. I have found Celexa to be virtually free of side effects for me .... but after 6 months weight did creep up but is more stable than the uncontrollable weight gain I had with Paxil.

Good Luck

Marie
