anxiety

Is it common for AD's to have nervousnes or anxiety as a side effects? What AD's are there on the market that do not have nervousnes or anxiety as a side effect. I just can't stay on the AD's when they make me feel that way. Anyone else had this problem and finally found an AD you could handle?

Hi..... Did you just begin taking an AD? What are you taking and what dose? I have been taking Effexor xr for approx. 7 weeks now. The first 4 weeks I most definately had anxiety and nervousness.... and the worst for me was being soo shaky I couldn't put a drink to my mouth! But.. they went away. I am now 7 weeks.... feeling the benefit... and no side effects! Hopes this helps somewhat.

Zoloft made me feel nervous/anxious, lack of sleep etc.... I am now using Remeron, I'm sleeping well, have much less anxiety and feel that the depression is lifting. I am in my 8th week with Remeron and just got to a 45 mg's per day dose.

I should have mentioned earlier that I have tried Zoloft, Prozac, Effexor XR, all with the same side effect of nervousnes and anxiety and I am currently on Divalproex Sodium (prescribed to stabalize my moods for the interim). I have no side effects from Divalproex Sodium but my doc doens't want me to stay on it indefinitely. Thank you Michele and MSM for your replies.

Just curious...... on the AD you tried.... did you wait to see if the side effects would go away?
How was it coming off the effexor? Best of luck to you.. Michele

It was virtually impossible for me to stay on the Effexor XR. Even at 37.5mg.day it made me too jittery, nervous and anxious, which is tough for me to handle with GAD. If the side effects were anything else I could probably handle, ie upset stomach etc as I have had those with other meds before. I only stayed on Effexor for a couple of days and am waiting to speak with my doc re: something else. Thanks again:)

have you tried some of the atypical anti-psychotics? they are sometimes good for anxiety. something like risperidal or zyprexa or geodon? if AD's are giving you anxiety, maybe they are not the best treatment. i have anxiety on AD's too and i have to treat it with geodon (anti-psychotic). good luck.
