Paxil Withdrawal

Posted by JasonPatrick on April 6, 2001, at 21:00:18

I have been on paxil for a year or so. I had
alot of social anxiety. I was always super
tense at school and especially around my
peers. I also had problems with depression
in the past and even to this day,
especially when the sun goes down and in
the winter. It seemed that after a while
paxil had done a great deal in solving these
problems. THEN, the bad part starts. I did
have a stronger sex drive before taking paxil
but the fact that paxil killed my sex drive did
not bother me because now I want to wait until I
am married, (even though i have had sex already),
The main problem that began to
develop was the NIGHTMARES. I have hear others
say that it made their dreams more vivid
and that may be true but it got to a point
where every time I woke up I was sweaty and
so happy to see the first human i came in
contact with. It was like going to a scary
place for a really long time and then "coming
home again" when I woke up. I would always
be so happy to be out of the terrifying nightmare.
Eventually, because of these nightmares, and
because of the articles my mom advising my mom read, I decided to get
OFF. My doctor decided to switch me
directly from paxil to serzone, and its been
a week. I had flu symptoms and have been tired
all the time(not sure if from paxil withdrawal or not)
and had the whole ball of wax:
dizziness, feeling weird, etc.
HERE IS MY ADVICE FOR ANYONE TRYING TO GET OFF PAXIL
WHICH I WOULD ONLY RECOMMEND DOING AFTER TALKING TO
YOUR DOCTOR ABOUT HOW TO DO IT. IF YOU ARE HAVING
ANY SIDE EFFECTS WHILE TAKING IT, THINK ABOUT
THOSE EFFECTS BEING GONE ONCE YOUR OFF OF IT AND ARE
HAVING WITHDRAWAL SYMPTOMS.
If you truly want guidance as to helping
cope with the withdrawal symptoms, consider this.
I recently became a Christian. This means
I have accepted Jesus Christ as my personal
savior and Lord. The good Lord has helped
me in my days of paxil withdrawal more than
I thought was possible. It's like, even
if the worst possible symptoms of Paxil withdrawal
comes, I know who's got my back. Christ will walk
right beside me as I am facing all of these scary
things. It gets better.... So whoever is reading
this and may have a person who is close to them of
the opposite sex, (i.e., girlfriend, boyfriend,
husband, wife, friend, or you may be going through
this just plain alone) It may feel nice to have
them there. But I'm gonna explain something
for the "worst case" scenario and everyone else
can learn from that. The reason the worst case is in quotes in because sometimes when we are alone as far as companionship goes, we can be really close to God which is not so bad. Someone reading this may be
completely alone in is/her life as far as human
companionsip goes. If you want Christ in your
life and you want to have a personal relationship
with God so that you are not driving on the
road of life without the roadmap, consider
giving your life to him, after all, didn't he
give his for ours. The following is a suggested
prayer, but the attitude of your heart is
what's important. "Lord Jesus, I need You. Thank
You for dying on the cross for my sins. I open
the door of my life and receive You as my Savior and
Lord. Thank You for forgiving my sins and
making me the kind of person You want me to be."
If you prayed this and your heart
expresses the idea of these words, then
Christ will come into your life as he promised.
How do you know that Christ is in your life?
Revelation 3:20 "Here I am! I stand at the door
and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens
the door, I will come in and eat with him,
and he with me." Pray about all your
problems with Paxil and ask the Lord to help you through
the incredibly rough times. Before a month or so ago
I would not consider myself a Christian, im in
college and my life was bannanas, smoked weed allll day
long, tried just about every drug under the sun.
I woke up drooling at the mouth from overdosing
on a new drug at a friends house once. He had been
trying to wake me up for two hours and was scared.
I was looking for answers in all the wrong places.
Christ is in my life now and I love it!!!!!!!
More importantly: I was so scared when i was
having these nightmares that all i could do was
pray that the Lord would somehow help me. I have
to admit that even I was a little astonished when
during one of the most terrifying dreams I ever had.
(a skeleton chasing me around my apartment with
me being paralyzed out of fear) the Lord gave me this
feeling like," ok , this is some scary stuff, i admit
but i'm here and i'm not going to leave your side"
I would encourage all those going through Paxil
withdrawal to pray for help. By the way, now that
Christ is in my life doesn't mean I don't have
problems and I do still sin. The difference is
that Christ is in my heart and he is helping me
battle that sin as well as the external forces that hurt me. Everyone..... remember back to when you were a
kid. What was one of the first songs some of us learned...
"Jesus loves me yes I know, for the bible tells me so..."
Turns out... theres some truth to that. (I know now)
I want to pray a prayer to all who read this, "Lord, please watch over whoever
is reading this, watch over them from night till wake and in every breath that that take, help them
in coming off of Paxil, help them with all the
scary emotions and fear, and hopelessness. I pray
that you would give them all hope. That you would
prepare the hearts (soften them to your love)
2 Corinthians 4:8,9 We are hard pressed on every
side, but not crushed; persecuted, but not abandoned;
struck down, but not destroyed.

Sorry about your experience with Paxil. That was a true nightmare...

I don't even wish people a "Happy Easter" anymore. To most people, Easter is about hunting for eggs and that one out of two times they go to church. Instead, I say "He is RISEN"--which conveys the true significance of the holiday.
