Effexor withdrawl

Posted by KH on April 2, 2001, at 23:00:14

I've decided I don't want to take effexor anymore, I take 75mg once daily, not that much really.
I've gone without for around 4 days now, and I am feeling some withdrawl. I haven't experienced loss of appetite, bad dreams, or thoughts of suicide like some people, but my symptoms are more physical and localized in my head. I easily zone out, and I feel really lightheaded and dizzy. I find it difficult to concentrate on anything.
I think I can willpower this thing out, but I have the bottle sitting on my desk just in case.
I don't want to take any other drugs to help in case I get addicted to those too. I want to be drug free!
Any comments, encouragements or advice for me?

dear KH,

effexor in my experience has proved to be the nastiest SOB as far as withrdawal concerned. I had awful abdominal pains for 10 days and then they were gone.

please, be careful, however, with the initial condition that required effexor treatment. Should the symptoms return, try something else. there are many options out there. i am sure you'll find something that suits you best. Keep in mind that your main goal now should be preventing the relapse. Unfortunately, one out of three patients relapse after discontinuing the drug treatment (of depression). Numbers are much brighter for those who undervent drug- and psychotherapy.

good luck

mila

Why, oh why, are you trying to go cold turkey?? Tapering off SSRIs (excepting Prozac) is the smartest and least complicated way to go. If you haven't had major problems so far, you might not have any in the future. However, the best advice I have (FWIW) is to have your doc give you a few 37.5mg doses and take those in the interim to help your body adjust to decreasing the meds.

Good luck, and let us all know how you're doing.
