LEO: Until one month ago I was on Effexor for 5 years. I felt better at first but after a few months I experienced symptoms as mentioned in other reported sites. I felt the need to sleep for hours. Headaches, sinus infections and as I tried to wean off this medication or cut back I started the classic withdrawal so I eventually went to a dose that diminished the withdrawal. Upon the advice of a relative I decided to get off Effexor completely and try Wellbutrin. I had a bad reaction to Wellbutrin(similar to Prozac and Zoloft which I tried 6 years ago)
I decided to get off Effexor completely. That was four weeks ago and it has been so horrible. Dizziness, flu symptoms, achy, sweats turning to chills, nausea. I litterally could not get off the couch for two weeks. Mind you I did wean myselt over a months time eventually going to crumbs for a few days just to ease the withdrawal some before going cold turkey. I continue to feel all these symptoms through the day. I literally function in slow motion. I become irritable and wonder how much longer I can live like this. I feel we have reason to bring a class action lawsuit against the maker of this poison. I am a Flight Attendant for a major airline. I haven't been able to work for almost 5 years. The effects of this medication which I thought were depression have caused me to take a leave from my job. I have lost an enormous amount of money and I am ready to take action against Wyeth Ayerst. Please respond.

There are more options for fighting Effexor withdrawal than you might think (such as fluoxetine or diphenhydramine){as mentioned in the Tips}. Or perhaps you can add a stimulant to the Effexor and stay on it, using methylphenidate, dextroamphetamine, pemoline, or the new Modafinil. I am very optimistic about your condition.

Did you go through the weaning process with your doc's help? If not, shame on you *give yourself a < small > slap on the wrist* : ) A doctor who is current on the affects of ADs can help you find a more tolerable way to wean off your meds. In the majority of cases, there is no reason to suffer the way you have. Hope you start feeling better soon!
