Combining Effexor XR and Remeron

Posted by AmyL on April 1, 2001, at 11:21:26

Hi All,
I'm taking 300 mg/day of Effexor XR and my pdoc is considering adding Remeron to it to make it more effective.

I've been on the dose of Effexor XR for a little over a week (I built up to this level).
Has anyone combined these two drugs and what were the results? Thanks for any help.
Amy

That is the best combination that ever existed, due to their action on most of the major transmitters in the brain. Dr. Ivan Goldberg thinks that combination is possibly as effective as ECT.

Addendum: You must get to 375mg of Effexor to target dopamine, as well as serotonin and norepinephrine; Remeron is more tolerable at doses of 30-45 mg rather than lower doses (I'm talking about sedation and weight gain). I never had any side-effects from the combination.
