McGuyvers positive effexor thread!

Hey, Effexor seems to be working fine with me after the 1st month, although the initial "bliss" has worn off. I really don't want to be on the stuff forever, nor will I. I'm just looking for other ways to increase the effectivness. I've been on 25mg IR, and 75mg xr from the start. Maybe I should increase? As well as add theropy? Anyone know of someone good to see in Chi-Town. Anyone just want to complain about all the hypocondriacs and know-it-alls? Another quick point, for the first 3 weeks I had to take Trazadone at night to sleep. This week, I slept quite well, without the Traz. i wasn't sleeping before the Effexor, but know, I'm able to keep my mind off all the "lifes problems" that were keeping me up. Turns out they are not that big of problems. Go figure. Ramble ramble. Sorry.

Later,

Mc

Mc - I recommend a good jazz club and perhaps would consider psychotherapy and maybe a dose increase. Ask your doc about this. A good average dose of Effexor is about 300mg/day. I am shooting for this level over the next three month.

I, like you, would just like to be able to sleep at night and function at work. Maybe the Charlie Watt's diet (amphetamines and barbiturates), but that is such a short term fix.

Take care and talk to you soon. - Cam

Hi guys. I have followed both of you for a while... respect your opinions a lot. I wrote about a month back, when I started effexor xr, terrified of it because of this board... that I think that increased my anxiety. But simply by sitting back.. and seeing what would happen to me... I've felt good results, and continue to feel better everyday. I went hiking today... for the first time in a year... used to be my "way of life".... it felt good. Anyway, thanks for adding so much intelligence to the board... otherwise, I probably wouldn't have given it a try!! Michele

Oh my goodness, I am looking forward to a conversation with someone who doesn't want to prove me wrong. Do you think we will be bored of each other in a few days? I have had nothing but positive results on this med. I do not want to go as high as 300mg though. I am at 150mg and am feeling better every day. Isn't 300mg extremely high? I thought that 250mg was the highest dosage to safely take. (Obviously not, so really aren't I answering my own question.) My only negative side effect is dehydration. I am drinking a lot of water. If I don't, I start to get that dehydration headache that is unbearable. Has anyone else had that problem?

"I am at 150mg and am feeling better every day."

I too am on 150mg and find that it has helped me regarding energy and cognitive problems.

"My only negative side effect is dehydration. I am drinking a lot of water."

I too am more thirsty. How much water are you drinking?

Hi Willow,
I always was a big water drinker (at least two litres a day), but now I am drinking at least three, if not more. I have not had any constipation either, which a lot of people seem to get on this med, so I think it is probably because of my water intake.
