I have been on Effexor Xr for about 4 weeks. I started off at 37.5 mg, then went to 75mg and then started 37.5mg & 75mg togethor. I have been at this dose for about a week. I have side effects of nausea at first, for like 3 days. My vision was a bit disturbed also. But that did go away. I have noticed a big improvement in my worrying and anxiety. I am more level headed and calm and not as irritable. Tomorrow I start 75mg 2x a day. That will be my max dose. My Doc suggested 2x a day because it does make me very tired. All this hype about withdrawal symptoms makes me want to quit while I am ahead. I am taking 112.5mg now, but tomorrow I will take 75mg in the am and 75mg in the pm. I guess I will notice side effects maybe tomorrow?? My doctor suggested Wellbutrin also before putting me on Effexor XR, "this med is suppose to not give you sexual side effect?" I have never been on an SSRI before, but so far so good. I am just scared of the withdrawal. My doctor said I should be able to go off of it in maybe 6 months to a year. Anyone have advise? Should I go to Wellbutrin? I don't have any complaints yet, except for the drowsiness, which I hope goes away in time?????
Any opinion is appreciated!!
Debbie

Debbie,
Hey. I am in the exact same position as you... dosage and everything.... except I had some really horrible side effects... all the sudden they went away and I felt great. I was terrified after reading this... and still am.... but there are a few people on here that didn't have any problems at all. Plus people on here our scared like ourselves and looking for answers.. so think of how many out there haven't experienced much? They would have no need to post. That's what I tell myself to get over the fear anyway. In 6 months... at least you'll be prepared... some great advice on here about the withdrawal.. you'll be informed now.. so can handle what comes your way. (Maybe by then they'll come up with something to target these withdrawal symptoms?) Anyway, just my opinion... as I had the same fear as you.... as recently as yesterday... but today I woke up feeling so great... I thought I'll deal with the withdrawal when it's time.... and consider myself better informed. Let me know what you decide!!! Michele

You've got to take some of these messages with a grain of salt. The current hysteria is over Effexor XR, but it could just as easily be about some other med, and probably will be before long. Many of these posters seem to have forgotten about all the research and testing that goes into a drug like Effexor. Listen to your doctor, not a group of hysterics.Just my opinion.

What's with this crazy dosing? Effexor XR can be taken all at bedtime for the duration of treatment.
Addendum: I had no withdrawal symptoms after taking 375 mg of XR for months.

I think that as long as you feel better on Effexor, and the side effects are tolerable, it is probably a good idea to stick with it thru the course of your prescribed treatment.
I was on Effexor too, with no relief, terrible side effects and worse withdraw, so naturally I won't go near it, but others have had great success.
Everyone reacts differntly to ADs, and as long as you're progressing, I would not worry about the eventual withdrawal, it may cause you unnecessary anxiety and then you doc will have you taking another med!!> I have been on Effexor Xr for about 4 weeks.
