This is my 7th day and I've got to stop.
From the first 2 doses I became a little light headed and jittery. My pulse rate shot up from 60 to 100. I had trouble sleeping. Maybe getting only 3 hours max and fitful. I felt hot yet no fever. Clammy feeling. From the 3 to 6th dose I started to get short with everyone. I lashed out quickly and clearly. Sweats are terrible after taking the capsule. Only better in the AM.
It has not gotten any better, i.e.: fewer side effects as I stay on the Effexor XR longer.
I keep saying to myself, "Just stay with it a day longer, it will get batter..." But when I do, the sweats and rapid pulse and short temper comes back.
Things piss me off too quickly. I feel I have less time to do things. I rush around. I completed more tasks.
Last night at a meeting around 8PM, 5 hours after taking my 37.5 mg dose, my pulse ran up to 110. I had to start fanning myself. Sweats.
Other than this stuff can speed up my metabolism and I have dropped 10 pounds...which is really one of the best side effects... I want to quit.
I will call my doctor this AM and tell him I am not having a "good time" with this med.
Some things have changed: I feel clearer headed on opinions and verbalize quicker. I feel somewhat energized. I feel that I'm not thinking as much on the negative issues. But once in awhile I still do. That's sort of the same without the meds. I do not like taking meds every day.
NOTE: I helped tidy up most of the basement work area with the help of my son. Looks really nice. I don't know if the meds helped on this or not. A couple of cups of coffee may have resulted in the same affect.
The reason Efferox was prescribed was that I felt overwhelmed from working and looking for another career. I'm self-employed and the revenue has not come in as much these few years to support my family. I have been self-employed for over 15 years. I need to go back to working for someone else. That really will change things here! My wife continues to work fulltime. She is tired all the time. My house is untidy because of all my papers and boxes. Everyone here is sort of lazy. I do get burst of cleaning energy and my son helps. But it is stressing me out along with my family. We are embaressed to have our friends come over. We all were able to decorate and clean on a regular basis in the past. But not in recent years. I was feeling down. In a slump. I guess a fellow can feel down once in awhile? I feel the doctors might be too quick to prescribe magic pills. I little talking might boost my spirits more and help me find solutions within!
A problem I'd like to cure is to lick my lifelong insomnia. I mind gets too active at bedtime, I worry too much. I take 25 mg of Desoryl at night before bed. It helps me relax and usually I can sleep the night through. I have gained weight on it over the years. The side effects of the weight gain and slight dry mouth are not good. And I only wish I could easily fall asleep without any meds at all!
I'll write back after I chat with my doctor.
Any comments in the meantime would be really welcome!

> Frenchy:
I sympathize with you on the issue of curing insomnea without the use of prescribed medication.
I have been fighting the sleeping issue for a couple of years now. I have reached a point, like you, were enough is enough! I have turned to natural meds along with prescribed meds. Something to try would be "Kava Kava" which helps to calm you down. As well, try drinking some herbal "Sleepy time tea" I find that taking the latter two along with a lower dose of prescribtion meds has helped me fall and stay alseep. This does not cure the problem but it does alow you to take less of the damaging presc. meds. I have yet to hear of someone going throught all the side-effects you haave described from taking natural substances. No worries, I'm not all that convinced myself about this route but it is worht trying. You have nothing to lose!
I hope this helps. Any more questions, just post a new thread!!

The side effects of Effexor you mention are common in people taking 2-4 times as much as you!
The positive response you have to it is also remarkable - something right is going on here.
Try geting 37.5mg tablets (these are non time release). Take half of one in the morning and the other half in the afternoon. The afternoon dose should wear off by bedtime so you can sleep better. I take Effexor and prefer the tablets.
This is the end of the thread.
