My boyfriend is on effexor xr and we've been trying to get pregnant for 10 months now. Does this drug cause impotency?? or low sperm count? Please let me know! Thanx Allyson

Although it can cause problems with getting an erection or ejaculating (reaching orgasm) -- like all SSRI's -- I don't think it affects the testicle's ability to produce sperm. If he is able to "perform" OK then I don't think the Effexor is the problem.

But if you're dating someone who has problems with depression, please reconsider trying to bring a baby into the world at this point.
I am a parent with depression, and it's a tough job made tougher by my illness.
I'm not saying depressed people shouldn't have kids, but perhaps you could wait till his problems are under control and then re-evaluate the situation, because the added stress of raising a new baby may push him farther into depression.. and he may not be able to handle itNot being able to get pregnant may just be a sign that it's not the right time for a baby.

I think so too, think of it like, "POST PARTUM DEPRESSION" for a woman but rather for your bf. A child is such a wonderful thing yet, the duties/responsibilities may not be handled well by your bf. thus, he would think he is a failure and do further harm to himself. Wait until you/he are emotionally ready. I have no children and no experience but, I can relate though.
