Going to start Effexor 75 mg today.

Posted by Jenn on March 15, 2001, at 8:23:19

I've been reading all the posts and I have to say that I'm alittle scared of what I've read. I've been taking Zoloft 150 for about 6 months now and nothing has changed. The doctor decided to switch me to Effexor 75mg. Is there going to be any side effects switching from one to the other? I also read about everyone gaining weight off of Effexor. That's why I'm taking the medication to start with because I'm overcoming being bulimac. My weight is one big concern to me as it is. Does anyone have any advice or suggestions for me? Thanks Jenn

Sorry but I don't have any good advice except to ask if you have discussed your concerns with your doctor? They are justified I believe.

Someone more knowledgeable will probably post soon.

Actually my doctor has all the information about my problem and he still put me on this med. I'm going to get a second opinion today. Hopefully the new doctor will be alittle better. Thanks Jenn

Effexor causes weight loss or no weight gain in some and of all the AD's is probably one of the ones less likely to cause weight gain. That said
all AD's cause weight gain in some people. You really have to try a med to see if it has this effect in you, reports from others are not highly predictive of your outcomes.

> Suffering terribly, Effexor XR Symptoms. My Doctor put me on Effexor about 8 months ago. My body began to twitch and I have "Brain Shivers" also called "Electric Shock-like sensations. My Doctors didn't know what it was. Through my research, I have found that Doctors are unaware of what Effexor does to people and they think these symptoms are Neurological (which is exactly what happen to me). I told my doctor of my symptoms and he increased my dose and sent me to a neurologist. They did an MRI and EEG and found nothing. I have been searching the Internet for months trying to find my own answers. I finally found the answer. Effexor cause SSRI Discontinuation Syndrome causing severe intolerable symtoms. While on the medication I suffered from the twitching and electric shocks. I cannot endure this anymore, so I have decided to take myself off of the drug completely. It has been a week now and I am suffering terribly. The electric shocks are brutally intense. I feel as if I keep getting shocked every few seconds. I am very tired and very sick nausea feeling. I do not recommend this drug to anyone. Anyone who wants to get off of it because of the side effects, has to suffer even more severely. I have read that the syndrome shouldn't last more than 3 weeks. I am suffering now, but hopefully in 3 weeks I will be over this living hell. Doctors do not know what they are doing to people.

Well I've been on Effexor for 3 day's and I have absolutley no side effects as of right now. Knock on wood!!!!!!! I guess I still have awhile before the full effect of the drug will happen. I guess I'm just one of those lucky people that don't get very many side effects for anything. When I was pregnant I didn't have anything with both of my children. Has anyone else gone without getting any side effects? When this drug starts working what will I notice? Jenn
