My daughter (11 years old) started Wellbutrin Sr 100 mg. a day about 2 weeks ago. A few days ago we increased the dosage to 2 x a day (total 200 mg. sr). She has seemed pretty even tempered until today. She comes home from school and starts yelling --- really out of control and angry. Seemingly not being able to control what comes out of her mouth. This goes on for about 30 minutes and now she is fine. She also takes ritalin. Is this from the Wellbutrin? If so, will it go away? How long should it be before the Wellbutrin starts really working? HELP!!

elise, Wellbutrin is known for causing this behavior. I experienced it myself, but after a few months it passed. Seems to occur mostly about 1 to 3 hours after taking it.

I'm on Wellbutrin SR along w/ prozac. I started off with Wellbutrin alone and was extremely irritable, short tempered, and felt mean inside. Now I'm on both WB & prozac, it's a great combo for me.
No more irritability or short temperament.

What about this "burst" of energy Molly seems to get....She took her first dose of wellbutrin sr at 9:30 a.m. At about 12:30-1:00 she starts to get real silly and kind of hyperactive. THen it stops. What's this all about?

It's what I was talking about when I mentioned the 2 to 3 hour window. The energy comes, but any frustration during that time can make for irritability.
This is the end of the thread.
