Dear Remeron Users,
My Dad has been on 15mg of Remeron for a week...he has burning red eyes, a startle reflex at phone ring and still a very groggy head---he is also confused and forgetful...has anyone experienced red eye as a side effect? Also, will the foggy head subside after a time? I would appreciate greatly an answer to either ir both questions---thanks!

Hi Patti. I've been on Remeron for a couple of months now. I started at 15 mgs and am now taking 60. The drowsiness or grogginess in the morning was most pronounced at the low dose and has largely disappeared now. I still feel tired at times but that may be from reducing my other meds.
I never had any eye problems - other than keeping them open in the morning - I just generally felt pretty sedated. Since anxiety was one of my big problems the sedation was welcome.
So far Remeron has been great for me. What other meds is your father taking? What was his diagnosis?
Oh yeah - I have gained about 25 pounds, which I gather is a common downside to the drug.

> Oh yeah - I have gained about 25 pounds, which I gather is a common downside to the drug.Hi Greg, Thanks for writing back...My Dad was diagnosed with Anxiety disorder 7 years ago...he was quite bad off...agoraphobic, etc...did a trial of several different medications, but none were successful other than Remeron...since he is from 'the old school' and was philosphically against medication...he became stabilized and took himself off the Remeron after about 4 months...that was 7 years ago (remeron was brand new then!)....since that time he remained highstrung but not critical in the anxiety dept.....then my Mom got a bad diagnosis and required intense medical treatment for the past 3 years so all his energy and focus went to her....my Mom passed away 6 weeks ago and to be expected, my Dad, after all the funeral proceedings ceased, he found himself right back to where he was 7 years ago...(they had been married 50 years) I probably said more than you needed to know but it kind of explains the origin, etc...I remembered about the Remeron and he got right back on it...he was on 15mgs and was getting lots of good sleep but feeling VERY head heavy groggy with the red eyes.....and then -bam- he did not sleep one wink two nights ago----Doc said up it to 30 mgs...and he did, and I'm waiting to see if it works.... he is supposed to drive to Fla. with his brother on Friday...does it impair relexes, etc..? Sorry for being so wordy....Patti
