What is Phentermine exactly?

Hi,
My sister started this drug to lose weight. She is also on Zyprexa.
Can anyone give me some info. on what this drug is and how it works?
Is it safe?

Phentermine got a bad name because it was half of the phenfen combo that was withdrawn from the market. Later on it was found out that it was the fenfluramine that caused the heart valve problems,and not phentermine. It is an amphetamine type drug and schedule 4,although it doesn't seem to stimulate as well. > Here is one of the studies that took phentermine and its metabolite off the US market:
