Now that I am in graduate school to become a therapist I diagnosed myself and realized that I was not psychotic but had PTSD. My bipolar has been uder control with depakote for 8 years now and I could not figure out why the antipsychotic meds. As usual my first trip to the hospital due to memories of extreme abuse resulted in thorizine but since I switched to zyprexa I could go back to school. I recently tryed 1 mg of klonopin for the flashbacks and now I don't need the zyprexa. Yippe!! I feel more human now and can work out better in the gym. Sometimes it pays to play doctor yourself.

I really really hate to say it...I cringe at the thought...but in all reality, some of us do a whole lot better playing doctor on ourselves than our own doctors do. Yikes. But it's true. I never started to get better until I started to research and make my own decisions. Prior to that, about a dozen common medications doctors usually throw at depressed patients were worthless. Sometimes, I really hate to say it, it really is better to take over the driver's seat and let the doctor go along for the ride, instead of vica versa.
Obvious disclaimer...self directed care is not suitable for everyone. Glad to hear you're doing well.
