Adhd anxieties--Minaprine or Effexor or what?

Posted by Paul d on November 19, 2000, at 4:44:27

I take adderall. I can't slep well. Many sleep aids seem to carry over until the next day--grouchy & stupid! Adderall, Dexedrine or Ritalin all make me a little anxious depending on the day.

I'm a rebel and I decided to try some Effexor XR one night. It wasn't too bad. Instead of making me sleepy, I got excited and danced, which was unbelievable. Terrible sleep. I writhed all night for sleep. Next day--totally stupid. KO'd. Layed off it.

Frustrated and nowhere to turn I tried it again divided 150xr by four and took it at night.

I had a rebelation, like Dr. Ratey and Dr. Hallowell describe when their patients take disipramine for adhd (desip didn't do it for me).

But for every good their's an equal not so good. I'm getting Migraines. I know something can't be good. Not to mention weirdness, weakness, mild freakanoia, elation, temper, appetie destruction, dumbness and what the hell, it doesn't even last all damned day!

Months ago I found Minaprine. From my lame view it's gods gift to adhd kids who are mildly anxious. At least gods gift for me. But wait, it doesn't last all day either, so it may not be worth a dime--but then again look at the competition.

Info. Anybody? What causes these anxieties? I'm sleepless and sleepy. What can help anxieties, sleep, irritation, lack of focus, impulsivity, diminished appetite. One major plus has been my eagerness to work and punctuality--but I would like something more stable. None of this bizzare medicine.

Thanks,

Hi,

Sorry, I do not have an answer, but for sleep aid and some of the symptoms you describe, you clould try 5HTP. Melatonin works too. I have tried low dose melatonin and many times had bad dreams. Anyway, better than insomnia. Valerian is mild but nice.

Was not minaprine discontinued?.

Dear Paul:
I just wanted to say that I relate to your frustration.
I'm no expert but I was thinking maybe Lithium could help as a stabilization aid.
Have you tried Wellbutrin?

I take Valerian to sleep as well and sometimes Kava for anxiety.

I wish you luck in trying to find the right combo.
