Has anybody NOT gained weight on Zyprexa?

Posted by angelrose on November 15, 2000, at 0:49:05

Hi,
I was wondering how bad the weight gain is on Zyprexa?
Has anybody NOT gained weight on this drug?

My Doctor suggested Zyprexa as an add- on to Prozac and I'm so desperate to try something that may work. I don't know if I can deal with gaining more pounds! I'm 10 lbs overweight after Paxil and I cannot seem to get rid of this extra weight.

Any comments appreciated.
Thanks.

My experience with Zyprexa is that there definitely is some weight gain (up to 16 lbs average). I have seen some people gain as little as 10 lbs but I have also seen some people gain as much as 70 lbs.
Are you taking it for depression purposes or as an antipsychotic?

My suggestion is to eat 3 average meals/day and do NOT snack before bed. The increased appetite, apparently is phenomenal.

Good luck.

A few people don't gain weight on Zyprexa, but most do, even at the lowest doses. Have you considered risperidone, which is like Zyprexa? There's a much lesser chance of gaining weight with low-dose risperidone.

Hey pal,

How's Risperdal (risperidone) treating you?

I'm afraid I also gained weight on Zyprexa - a very low dose of 5 mg. I gained about 15 lbs. in a month and after a year have still not lost all of it. I thought I could handle it, but it just added to my depression.
