i've been reading the previous postings about adrafinil and am very interested in trying it. i am currently taking luvox and klonopin (for ocd, anxiety). i am curious, seeing as my doctor probably won't even know what it is, is it okay to take with my current meds? i am also interested in hearing about anyone else's experience with adrafinil.
all my life i have battled constant fatigue. going to the doctor for that reason got me into this endless circle of anti-depressants which don't help my fatigue at all. the ad's that could help just increase my anxiety.
any information would be great!
thanks-
angela

> angelaHi Angela,
Trying to figure all this stuff out is hard, yeah? As I was reading your post, a couple things came to mind. I don't want my comments to be taken as advice, but rather ideas to think about.First, Adrafinil from my own personal experience is worth a shot. As I've tried most medications, it is one of the mildest. Yet good energy and motivation it does provide, especially at about week 3 to 4 of continuous use. The anxiety component you mentioned might be felt a tiny bit the first couple days, but is not common, goes away guickly, and is nothing like the kind you want to avoid. When I started taking Adrafinil, I found myself very enthused with hobbies and projects, exerting lots of physical energy in gardening for example, and being really into it. What a welcome change from the blah emptiness of recent years. Will it do this for you? Don't know. It could. Unlike antidepressants, Adrafinil can be helpful even for 'normal' people. But don't expect the burst of energy of typical stimulants. It works much slower over days to weeks.
I don't see why you couldn't take it with your current meds. But after three months, and then again at six month intervals, it would probably be a good idea to get a blood test and check liver enzymes. At one to two pills a day, which is what worked for me, that shouldn't be a problem. But just to be on the safe side. My combo of Amisulpride+Adrafinil+Remeron had me a little worried. But my liver tests were normal. My worries came up empty, which was good.
The other thing that crossed my mind was stimulant+antipsychotic, instead of your current meds. The stimulant would boost your drive, energy, blood flow, and dopamine function, while the antipsychotic would put a ceiling on elevated dopamine, and provide calming similar to Klonopin. Something like Ritalin+Zyprexa, with maybe some Luvox or Klopo in the background if needed. Stimulants+antipsychotics are wonderful combinations for a whole variety of psychiatric symptoms, and in my opinion aren't employed enough. But, just an idea.

thanks john,
you seem very educated on this subject. i am very open to your idea about the stimulant+antipsychotic, it's just getting the doc to agree. as many meds as i've been through, and my constant complaining of fatigue, you would think that would have been an option mentioned to me. are doctors hesitant to prescribe stimulants? i will definately ask him about that combo!
we'll see what the doc says, if not, i'm definately going to try the adrafinil.thanks again john, i may have to call on you again. it seems like a lot of others on this board do to!
