I am not sure what is happening. I am taking topamax since June now up to 400 mgs. just recently added Lamictal once a week. As some of you know by my posts I have been in a dark place. Just today the depression began to lift. I would have a few hours of really up times and then what I can only describe as "waves" like crashing of depression horrible really for just short bursts, then I would feel OK again. I have bipolar 2. I didn't think rapid cycling was associated with bipolar 2. Do you think maybe the Lamictal is beginning to take hold and maybe the leveling out is just not there yet? Is this rapid cycling? Can anyone help figure this out? The waves are short although very hard to get through. Any insight would be appreciated. Lexie

I also have that feeling of the depression coming in waves when I first start heading into my depressions. This is different than my rapid cycling which comes in 2 - 4 week cycles. (And wouldn't you know, the depression part is the longer of the two.) I never really thought about them being mini-cycles; I always just use it as a warning sign that I'm heading down within the next 24 hours and make preparations for the main event.
