I have no doubt that this board saves lives and has helped members enormously through group education and mutual support.
My concern is that within the confines of this web
site that users protect their medical privacy as much as each deems individually necessary and that users be aware of the many different types of threats that exist to their medical privacy. Breaches of medical privacy may occur as a result of indiscrete or innocent revelations of identifiable user information that can be used by people or organizations that do not have this sites users' best intentions at heart. I have no doubt that 99% of the users of this site are honest and thoughtful people, including the website's sponsors. I'm concerned about the other 1% whose motives may not be as pure or altruistic.

I take the info I get here for what it is--and check it out, either by looking up references myself, or asking my pdoc.
As for identity, I agree that people should try to not provide too much personal info.
As for questionable motives, it is pretty clear that not everyone who posts here is trustworthy and there have been some who are outright hostile, so, although your warning is appropriate, I would guess that most of us understand the limitations.

James here.....On the internet in general far more than 1% have
questionable motives !j
