Main Problem: Sleep, weight gain and low energy.
I was on Prozak and Wellbutrin for three years. This past year, my sleep problems have ramped up and so has my weight! I took off the Prozak but just completely about three weeks ago. I also lowered my Wellbutrin by a third. The sleep is much better but not where it should be still. I had terrible insomnia and then couldn't get up in the morning. The weight, could be the long term side effect of Prozak I've heard about. I don't know if Wellbutrin could do that.
My psychiatrist has just prescribed Provigil. I am hopeful. It's fairly new and helps with daytime sleepiness without interfering with your sleep. I will see if it does that for me. Does anyone know anything about this drug personally? I really need something that gives me more energy. I am just too tired by the end of the day to excercise and I'd like to be able to. I never have never been big on excercise because I didn't have extra weight, I loathed the activity and had no enery! But an anti-depressant I took years ago gave me the energy and more - Nortriptyline (Pamelor). It was awesome but it made me gain weight so fast I have permanent stretch marks. I did aerobics 2 or 3 times a week for that whole year which is a miracle for me but not an ounce came off until I quit the med. Then it just fell off!
Any information and advice valued. Thank you so much.

i too am interested in this med. i tend to eat more and sleep more when depressed. from what i've read pamelor (your old med)looks like it would work for me, but i would only switch to that med if the weight gain would be less than that of remeron (my current med). i think you will lose the weight on this new med. i've read that it decreased feeding and body weight in rats-- might do the same for humans! would you please post after a week and let me know how the new med is working out, and if it affects your depression at all? thanks, and good luck!

> Any information and advice valued. Thank you so much.I have been on Provigil (300mg) for a few months, after using Ritalin (several forms) to combat day-time sleepiness caused by other meds (including lithium and nortriptyline). The Provigil did help, at first, without the rollercoaster effect of ritalin. However I suspect I am becoming tolerant to it, also, and have been tapering off the past week. Sorry to report I found no weigh-loss associated with it's use. I tend to become tolerant to everything, so your experience might be quite different.
