i've been taking effexor xr for a couple of months now, and lately i can't get enough sleep. i work the night shift and don't do as bad when i have to work, but on the nights that i am off i feel like i could sleep my life away with no problem. i realize that working the night shift screws up my biorhythm but i've been working the night shift for 2.5 years now and have never had difficulty switching from day sleep to night sleep until now.
i normally take it in the morning after getting off work and take it the same time on my days off. i worked sunday night, slept 6 hours monday after i got off. then i went back to sleep from about 730pm to 12:30am. woke up for a few hours, slept again from about 4am to 6am. now here i am, still tired and ready to sleep a lifetime.
if i let myself i will sleep all day today and will want to take a nap this evening and then sleep a few hours tonight. lately that is how my days off have been going.
i apologize for the length of this message but i am desperate. my 8 year old son complains that all i do is sleep.

Cathie - I would tend to blame your body clock's adjustment to the nightshift. This may have been reinforced by the Effexor, which (as most antidepressants will do, if effective) may have "improved" your sleep patterns and reset your body clock to the nightshift. This 'may' slowly revert back to being able to get up during the day in a month or two.

I am effexor xr and it makes me sleep -- which is why I take it at night. Then, in the morning, I take ritalin. It was just prescribed for me because I could not get rid of the sleepiness.
