Hey all: Doc wants to change my meds to just one, Trazodone. I've looked it up on the net and in books and it always says the same thing all the other AD's say. So, I'm looking for the scoop from those of you who are actually on it or have had experience with it.
Thanks everyone. I hope you are all well.

Tina,
I have used 100mg of trazadone on and off for the past year for sleeping and as an augmentation agent for effexor and zoloft.
It helps with my anxiety. Without it I am only a partial responder to effexor as well as zoloft. So I love the stuff. It is not frequently used in monotherapy as it is not well tolerated due to it's strong sedative properties. At any rate good luck!

Well I was on trazadone for a while, I took myself off of it because I was MORE depressed with it than I was without it. All I wanted to do was sleep all day, but after I stopped taking it, I felt so much better. That may only be my experience, but I would not recommend it.

Hi Tina! I was given Trazodone to augment Prozac ( 7 years ago I think). The Trazodone konked me out within 20 mins or so. I would sleep through my morning alarm.
Unfortunatly it was not a combination that worked to help my depression. I am a type II bipolar with atypical depression SO I was sleeping all the time anyway, and the addition of something that makes you sleep was just making
my depression worse.Do your research, know what you are taking. Know the possible side effects, and be familar with your illness.
Best of luck!Tdaneen

Thanks guys. You've really made me think. I feel like sleeping all day now so I guess it wouldn't be a great thing for me. I'll talk to my doc.
Thanks again you guys.
Peace to all and hope you are doing well

Tina,
I took Trazodone as a monotherapy for about 7 years and I thought it was a wonderful drug. I took it only at bedtime. The first few weeks, I had a hangover feeling but it went away completely. I also tried taking Trazodone and Prozac together and the combination was excellent. Good luck.

> TinaSo far the responses to your post about Trazodone have been pretty positive. But just to show you how different we all respond to the same med, here's my experience with Trazodone...severe headaches, horrible nightmare filled restless sleep, general malaise. A lot like the flu.
It is a rather sedating med, so it is sometimes prescribed to help with insomnia. It isn't used much as a stand alone med. Doses for that are much higher than doses for insomnia, and side effects usually prevent someone from being able to take the dosage needed.

> TinaTina: I have been addicted to benzos the last 12 years. Getting off of was tough and done by going to Ambien. Now Ambien to Trazadone. As a person with big time sleep prolblem, I can say has been very useful in providing the most "normal" sleep I have had in years. I use with Effexor. However, I also found that once on, hard to get off. I tried to stop taking and got depressed and crazy.
