Free meds

Sally, there is a site called http://www.needymeds.com which tells you which drug companies participate in giving free medications to people without insurance and without a lot of money. There's usually pretty easy forms to fill out (nothing like tax forms) and your doctor then writes a prescription and you send them into the company. The site gives you the phone number to call for each company. You should be able to get samples from your doc til then. Good luck. Shellie

Shellie,

I have a friend in this situation right now, I'll pass this info along to them. Have you ever used this website for obtaining meds? If so, what was your opinion of them?

Thanks for passing this info along, things like this really help people out!

The website is not for obtaining meds, just for getting information about each company's free med program. I used it for topomax. Topomax was not listed but my pdoc and I looked up its manufactorer who IS listed and we used the number from another one of the manufactorer's meds. My pdoc had to call and they sent her a form for me to fill out and she sent me a prescription and I think I have to send a bank statement and they will provide the drugs through her. The web site just provides the information; you have to follow through with the phone numbers they give you and information they want. It's really just a short cut to calling the manufacturer yourself and asking if they have a program for people who can't afford their meds. The one problem I ran into was with provigal. Their program only includes provigal if it was proscribed for narcolepsy (although they were working on changing that decision). Almost every company has a "free" program, just the criteria and the way it works differs. The site helps make it a bit easier. Shellie
