As I said, far from the supportive environment this site appears to be on the surface, the slightest probing reveals it to be populated by several hostile and derisive people. I feel so supported sharing this world with you.
Today is a good day to die.

Hi everyone
Shar, CarolAnn, Alice, and Paul,
Thanks for your kind words. I was really just performing the PB ritual goodbye. It was supposed to be tongue in cheek. I do feel a lack of support here, but I don't need it enough to embrace the shared assumptions. Forgive me, really I hate the social sciences, butI've been doing a few participant/observer studies as well as scorekeeping for god, the devil and bob.Mr B Sorry a couple of people used this thread as an excuse to be cruel. It's a reflection (and an ugly one) of their values. I hope you don't leave.
Re the thread below and ******* is painless. Well maybe, maybe not. I wish you Dylan Thomas instead and Rage rage against the dying of the light. Somehow I think you may perhaps be acquainted with rage. I know I am. And I offer you the words of one of my old shrinkos *You must use your suffering*. Imagine it said with an eastern European accent for best effect.
Mr B I hope you come back and post on PB anytime you want to. Thanks Oddzilla

Mister B
I just read your last post. I guess we were on at almost the same time. I don't know what to say except Don't hurt yourself. I won't even try to reason with you except to say Don't.
I do care about you. You may think it doesn't count because we're talking on computer screens but I think it counts. I think you are a sensitive person and a decent person and in a lot of pain. I think you haven't always been treated fairly here.
I'll say a prayer for you. You may say you didn't ask for support or advice or prayers and maybe you didn't but I feel entitled to offer them to you because we are both people and I've come to know you and value you through your posts.
God be with you.

Mr. B,
Anyone here who knows me can tell you that I am not a derisive or hostile person. I have simply grown weary of you popping in every few days to level some derogitory remark about the site, it's creator or one of the people who visit here. I guess I just don't understand your motive for this. If this environment makes you so terribly unhappy then why do you keep returning? To see if you can get a rise out of us? Maybe everything doesn't need to be probed or analyzed.
Try looking inside for the answers, they're there waiting for you. I sincerly hope you are not contemplating suicide, that would be a terrible loss. No one here is out to get you despite what you might think.
I hope you find some peace and tranquility very soon.
Peace,
Greg

Mr. B/b
If you need help or assistance, I hope you will ask for it plainly and clearly. If you do, I'm sure you will be surprised at the breadth and depth of support you will receive here.As it stands now, IMHO, your posts read more like someone who is not asking for help, and is not depressed (as you stated in one of your posts), and seems primarily interested in sharing the deficiencies you find in PB and/or its contributors.
Hoka hey--it's a good day to die; a concomitant Native American belief is not to go where one isn't invited. I understand the suicidal feeling; I feel that way every day. If you are suicidal I strongly urge you to find a forum that will help you if you don't want help from PB. I suggest www.metanoia.org -- it has some good information.
The following selected statements from your posts indicate--to me--that PB doesn't seem safe to you, and I hope you will find a safe place to heal.
Peace, health, best wishes, good luck.

After I started using several masking techniques such as using a different Internet service provider, and a different e-mail address...
I found the board to be inhabited by at least several hostile and derisive individuals...
...my perception is that people loaded with buttons tend to wear chips on their shoulders, waiting for someone to accidentally knock them off...
...is a classic rhetorical technique for defense and for control...
A classic counterinsurgency tactic is to identify all dissidents as one person, or one group, and then to discredit, threaten, abuse or destroy that one person or group...
The continued corruption of mine and others' personal boundaries...
I suspect it was cut by board management...
I don't personally cop to depression...
Somebody might occassionally try to block them from the web discussion...
...in real life, many people know only a fraction of my extremely complex character...
...is this a tactic of low-intensity conflict directed at me...
It is more like I posted something, carefully checking my post before submitting, and then somebody deleted most of it...
...the kind of knowledge about humans that makes me wish I had never been born human...
I rather suspect tampering on the part of Robert Hsuing...

its painfully clear that you do not get what you need here. your attacks on dr. hsiung alone prove the presence of deep-seated difficulties. as i am not a professional diagnostician i'll not attempt to enumerate them here. PLEASE move on!! please consider professional help as your confused and contradictory-not to mention degrading and grandiose-posts indicate the presence of problems far beyond the scope of a message board. Hi, Oddzilla.
I guess I don't get the message of your post. I do know that sometimes it's hard to tell when someone is kidding or whatever because one doesn't have the usual "in person" cues (tone of voice, facial expression, body language) that might otherwise tip one off.
If you have returned, welcome. If not, I hope you will always find what you need for a good life. Actually, I hope that for all of us all the time! (sort of ironic--when I read second sentence, sounded like I was only hoping that if you were not returning...thus, sentence #3 was added)

Shar
I just meant that for a while it seemed to be a ritual for people to announce they were leaving and then all their friends would jump on the thread to tell them good-bye and then they would shortly reappear. I just wanted to see who would tell me goodbye!! I thought it would be a good way to gauge the level of support various members are recieving.
By the way, I don't like social science but I have nothing against social scientists! I don't like the idea of "research" being done on this site because it seems intrusive and I really don't see how it can be done in an honest and unbiased way given the limitations of anonymous and unstructured posting. I'm also aware that what I want is not a factor here and thus my career as participant observer/experimenter was born. Nothing more than an effort to be one of the ones in the lab coats as opposed to one of the ones in the maze. (And alright, perhaps a gentle protest.)
Actually, I think lots of people here would be willing to give lots of information if they were simply asked and it were voluntary. I wouldn't but I think lots of people would.I felt so sad when I read your post to Mr B and you said you felt like every day was a good day to die. I hope it won't be that way forever.

odzilla-
if i read your post right you are playing a game with the feelings of the people on this message board. we already have one person who does that and it is irritating in the extremis. please don't play games with the board. it is unnecessarily disrespectful. if i have missed the boat entirely, disregard this post. i can't see where your tongue is when you write.

that was my point!! research is unnecessary and plays games with peoples feelings. thanks for toning down your language in posts to me. i found some of your vitriol very disturbing and cruel even when it was directed at human beings other than board posters. this was very hurtful. i too am willing to change if there is a board policy against using pb for research of course i will be glad to abide.

if you're willing to change how about starting with using ONE AND ONLY ONE screen name on this board?
as far as the direction of my "vitriol"-it had but a single target. PLEASE quit with the games!!! they achieve nothing!

I have to agree. Please don't do that again.
> research is unnecessary and plays games with peoples feelings
I support research in general. Particular projects may of course be more or less well-designed.
Ethical research usually requires the informed consent of subjects (but there can be exceptions, for example, see:
http://www.apa.org/ethics/code.html#6.12
I think it's clear that I have limited control over what happens on this board (and to the archives), but I'll oppose any research that I'm aware of and consider unethical.

Thanks Dr.B. It does alleviate some of my doubts about Odd's identity. I really didn't think that Odd was B., but a doubt still lingered in the back of my mind.
Sorry for entertaining thoughts against your separate existence Odd. I guess B. had upset me enough to be paranoid of anyone who would side with someone who was so full of hate and was in such denial of his illness (especially when adamantly rejecting any support us Babblers tried to give him). I agree that some of B.'s theories were intriguing and playing a devil's advocate is sometimes needed, but B. always stopped short of scientifically backing his positions with sound reason. Instead, he chose to lash out against mainstream scientific thought, just because it was mainstream scientific thought. Our accepted science is far from perfect, but if one is going to attack it, the attack should be logical and backed by reproduceable research, not just contradictory rhetoric.
Odd, I hope that you accept my sincere apologies. - Cam
