Sam-e is really helping me. I am quite surprised how well it is working for depression. But now the side effect: It really is bothering my stomach.Any suggestions on what I could take with it? I am using Nature Made brand. Is there a brand that is better, gentler on the stomach? I am taking 600mg daily.

Glad to hear of your success. I'm having similar good results. Don't have stomach problems though. Maybe give more details and someone may have a suggestion.

I've had stomach and gas problems when I take SAM-e, but I don't know any way to deal with that. To work best, it is supposed to be taken with water on an empty stomach. That's so it will get into the intestines and be fully absorbed properly, without interaction with stomach acids and food, which diminish it's purity. So, I don't think there's anything we can take for the stomach side effects. Maybe they will go away in time.

When I tried it (just for a few days) I was almost constantly hungry (and eating). Just wondering if anyone else had this experience?

I read a book on it and I believe the doctor who wrote it (Dr. Brown at Columbia University) said to try it with food if it bothers your stomach. I have taken it with food for over a year and it works very well. The brand I take, Nature's Rx, says to NOT take it on an empty stomach.

FWIW - The "Nature Made" box says, "The best time to take SAM-e is on an empty stomach at least 30 minutes before a meal"
