Effexor Withdrawal - - PLEASE HELP!!

Posted by Bryan on August 18, 2000, at 6:46:58

I am on day 5 of being effexor free. This really sucks!! When will these darn electrical sensations go away? Has anyone had more than a week symptoms? My boss gave me a week paid medical leave, but I have to go back on Sunday, and to be honest with you I am scared. I just want to feel normal again. The first 3 or 4 days were as close to hell as I have ever come minus the flames. I do feel a little better, but not to the point that I would like to be at. Can someone please help me? Any suggestions? Will it get better?

Also, has anyone had any hair loss due to this drug? I have two patches on my face where my hair stopped growing. I read on an Effexor page that hair loss is a side effect of being on the pill. I hope once the chemical is out of my body that it grows back.

Sorry for rambling, just very concerned.

Peace,
Bryan

Bryan:
I myself have gone from 375 mg effexor to 0 over the last 5 days. My head is a little bent, but very minor. While getting off effexor, I am taking prozac to keep serotonin levels up, the theory being that prozac is then easier to get off of due to long half-life. I have seen this combination referenced a number of times from different sources as effective. In fact, one Web-Doc suggested only one to a few 20 mg tablets to cover the withdrawal period. Prozac "withdrawal" would then occur, but with no symptoms becuase of the very gradual wash-out.

I hope this helps. I'll keep you posted.

Bill

Bryan - Check out the following website for Effexorâ„¢ (venlafaxine) withdrawl strategies. One of the experts on this board (St.James, or James for short) has compiled a "best of" link at this site.

Hope this helps - Cam
