PsychoBrother-Survival Voting

Posted by Cam W. on August 14, 2000, at 21:37:10

This is just a thought, but maybe we should take a poll to see if mister b's banishment is supported by the majority of people frequenting this site.

One problem that I can see arising is that some people may vote more than once, using pseudonyms.

I, for one, would feel a sense of relief if mister b were to go play somewhere else. He has verbally attacked me directly and through innuendo, and I really don't like it. When he can't get through on this board, I get unsolicited anonymous e-mail. So even if he were voted out, I do not think his attacks will stop. I guess it's my fault for being open about who I am and allowing my e-mail address to be posted. I do this to support the validity of any advice that I may offer.

I do not like having negative feelings about this guy, but it is the way that I feel. - Cam

With the current system I suspect you can only sign in with pseudonyms by accessing from a seperate Internet account, but I could be wrong...

I'm sorry to hear that he's attacked you. I've only witnessed some antagonism between him and Dr. Bob that I recall. And I'll leave them to sort it out...

This board is supposed to exist for mutual support. How would you feel if someone started a thread to discuss banishing you?

Cam,
I am happy to let Dr. Bob's decision stand as is. If there is a call for a vote, I will participate, but, as yet, I haven't noticed a general hue and cry that Dr. Bob's decision was unfair or unwanted.

I certainly can understand your feelings, and you shouldn't have to pay a price for posting here!

For general principles, I'd like to learn how to trace who is sending things because my security software has quite recently detected at least five separate attempts to access my system. I absolutely do not know who it is, and am not implying it is Mr. B., or even related to PB, just giving info.

Cass - I really do not think that would bother me, banish away. Perhaps this is not the place to discuss someone who upsets me (and I presume others) and causes me (and I presume others) mental anguish. I really don't need the extra stress of his agenda and I am glad he is gone. I am a little ashamed of myself because I could never forgive that guy for the way he "makes" me feel about him. Anger and hatred are such draining emotions.

BTW - My last post was meant as a joke, but I guess it could be open to interpretation. I was trying to equate the dynamics of this site with that of two (well, at least one) popular shows currently on television, Big Brother and Survivor (b=Mega). The vote would be a moot point anyway, as he is already gone.

Whatever - Cam

I simply cannot understand why some people have such a hostile reaction to him. Like I said in a prior post, I do not agree with every thing he writes, but I still respect him, and I would not try to drive him away like so many people here want to do. I feel that he has been "banished" because his opinions are not mainstream. Why can't this board be open-minded of all sincere posters? Why does this board have to be so homogenous? I think that the input of various points of view is constructive, not destructive. The intolerance I'm seeing here is very disturbing to me, just as disturbing is Dr. Bob's targeting of MisterB as "uncivil" when others are just as "uncivil". I have not read all of his posts, but I have noticed that when MisterB has been "uncivil", it has usually been a reaction to being provoked. I don't know what to say about your mysterious emails, but let's not make this a witch hunt. Isn't it possible it is someone else?

>I feel that he has been "banished" because his opinions are not mainstream.
•He was not banished because he wasn't mainstream, he was banished because he was mean to others.

>Why can't this board be open-minded of all sincere posters?
•I'm sorry, I do not believe for a moment that he was sincere.

>Why does this board have to be so homogenous? I think that the input of various points of view is constructive, not destructive.
•If his posts were constructive more times than they were destructive, then I wouldn't have as much of a problem with him.

•Maybe you should read b in all his incarnations, he almost always is the initial provoking party.

>I don't know what to say about your mysterious emails, but let's not make this a witch hunt. Isn't it possible it is someone else?
•He has admitted as much, that it was him and has stated the fact outright on this board.

I'm done with him. I will not talk of him anymore. - Cam

I do *not* think a vote is a good idea. I see later it was meant as a joke, but I just want to be clear about this.

A discussion, and even "various points of view", is fine, but please be careful to be respectful.

All,

As most of us know, this issue arised 4 or 5 months ago over a post about ECT (I believe). One of Mr.B's many alter-egos leveled some very nasty, vindictive communtary against some of his fellow babblers, especially when they didn't agree with his viewpoint. The situation has continued to blossom since that time despite the efforts of some of us to get it to stop.

Cass and Odd, I completely respect your decision to support Mr.B. I have spoken to him in the past and have found hime to have an enormous wealth of knowledge and intellence. I don't understand however how you can be support of someone who chooses to continue to show such a vile disrespect of others. One of you asked for a list of what words were and were not acceptable at PB. If you want a list, I could go back and fill several pages with vindictive comments made by Mr'B over the last 5 months. Maybe then you would know why so many here harbor bad feelings against him. But that would only serve to further this incessant, on-going discussion. If Mr.B wants to make comments based on supportable facts and avoid hurting others while doing so, then I for one would like to see him here. I think he can be a valuable contributor. If he can't then simply, he should go.

Dr.Bob, I am very thankful that you have given us this forum. I would have been lost without it. I don't like seeing you or this site being attacked, unfortunetly this is part of nearly every site. IMHO, there are times when you expose yourself to these attacks by simply responding to them. If you feel that a person should be removed fron this site, then just do it. You don't owe us or anyone a reason for it, most of us here know that your intentions are good. But sometimes I think you fuel the fire by responding. Just food for thought?

I know so many valuable contributors to this site who either very rarely or never post here anymore because of this discussion, that is a crying shame. This situation has not only hurt the ones involved, but mant innocents as well. When we lose our brothers and sisters here, everyone of us loses! The time is long past due to put this to rest and get back to the business for which this site was intended, the mutual support and education of each other.

I beg all of you, let's let this thing go once and for all?

With the creation of Psychosocial Babble and PsychoBabble Jr., if this is to continue, maybe PsychoBattle is in order? I really hope not.

Peace to all,
Greg

Well, now that we've made fun of people who have no access to the board to reply. Here's a place to make humorous or otherwise comments on people who are still here!!!

It's anything I say it is and I will rule by personal whim but I think it would be interesting to watch PB as a process. Sort of cyber anthropologists (but no jargon please).

That is not necessarily true. Oscar Schindler disrupted the flow of Jews into work camps and gas chambers. Martin Luther King disrupted a racist society, and his words were agitating to many. Sometimes disruption and agitation is necessary. In the spirit of intellectual and spiritual growth, I think we should be tolerant of others who want to expose points of view that do not necessarily coincide with our own.

Please, "nasty" and "vindictive" and "vile" are inflammatory.

Hmm, somebody else just made that same point earlier today. Maybe this is in fact not the best way to go about this. The thing is, if I were "removed", I would want a reason, and the opportunity to discuss it...

Dr.Bob - Sorry about the voting comment. I had just been watching an argument on the Big Brother website and there were some parallels to the situation here. I guess I thought it would be funny, but I was wrong, again.

BTW - When you put a certain person's e-mail handle into Google, you get three hits and his real name. One is a list of e-mail addresses that I presume are not functional or have been changed. I wonder if it is a good idea to have access to these. I will e-mail you with the particulars.

Okay, let me try to be funny again:

Q. What did the Zen Buddist say to the hot dog vendor?

A. Make me one with everything.

Thanks for the site Dr.Bob. I hope we can get back to support and info as JohnB has requested. I really do try to bite my tongue, but sometimes I post before I think.

Sincerely - Cam

Sometimes this depends on your point of view. I'm sure Nazis thought Oscar Schindler was destructive to their cause, and that racists thought MLK was destructive to the status of whites.

I just ran across this article about potential mental health problems on the real Survivor and Big Brother shows. Apparently in 1997 on the Swedish predecessor of Survivor one of the banished threw himself under a train and died.

http://digitalcity.drkoop.com/news/stories/july/hs/big_brother.html

All the current Survivor players are being debriefed by MH professionals after being cast off.

(I predict Rudy will be the winner.)
