Donate my brain? Only AFTER I am deceased. Any sooner would be just too great a sacrifice:) There again, on days like today, it may have been an unexpected blessing.

But seriously...WHY NOT donate your brain, along with anything else that may be helpful to others? It's not as if you'll be needing those items after you die.

Yessiree--when do they want it?

I already have an organ donation card I carry with me, and a living will, so if someone can use my brain for anything, why not?

I would just want to make sure that I got cremated as I have requested, and I don't end up in transit from lab to lab forever.

It is a good way to help, and a generous thing for you to do. If you choose to.

OK, this is something I hadn't really though about. I am signed up as an organ donor on my license, but have never though about specifying my brain for research on depression. I just imagined they would use what they needed for transplantation. I would think you would have to make it known that your brain is designated for some research organization. Do they really need our brains? If so, I would want to sign up. I think it might be against my religion to do so, other than for immediate transplant purposes to help people who are gravely ill (and Lord knows they don't want MY brain!!). I would be interested in knowing more about whether brain researchers really need depressed brains for research, and if my brain could really contribute, I would agree to donate.

A bit of a tangent, but it reminds me of Dan Quayle's version of the Negro College Fund's motto (A mind is a terrible thing to waste): As Quayle put it, "What a terrible thing it is not to have a mind."

Hi Kelly R,

I'm not sure if you're still following this thread.
I'm just curious, did they approach you because of your mental health problems?

In other words do they want your brain because of your mental illnesses.

Janice

hope you're fine

Hey - thx for the smiles you just gave me!
