Women and ADD. Thank you so much Janice!

Posted by JanetR on May 19, 2000, at 19:22:05

Dear Janice, I managed to get a copy of this book. I am definitely a women with ADD and hypo-activity. I fitted the description exactly. I am unable to filter stimuli and I feel bombarded with sounds, lights, images, and thoughts the whole day.I too have reacted by paring all aspects of my life down to the barest minimum just to be able to cope.I am also in a "toxic help" relationship with my husband who needs to control.
The Ritalin is helping but I know I'm just at the beginning of the process of recovering and I will have to learn a whole new set of behaviours and new ways of looking at things.
What I wanted to say was that any woman that has been suffering from fatigue and depression and has been resistant to nomal AD treatment should read this book by Sheri Solden. It should also be required reading for all pdocs. as I'm sure many women with ADD and hypo-activity are just undiagnosed.
Thank you Janice for indicating the right direction. I shall be grateful to you and all Psycho-babblers and Dr. Bob for the rest of my life. Love Jan.

Nikki, NPR did some in-depth reporting in the past week about Cherie Blair, and the description of her at 9 months presenting a two hour speech to the court on parental leave rights justs tickled me no end. It seems it must be a nice alternative story to the usual royals births, etc. A completely different slice of life.

Janet, about fatigue and depression in women: Have you had your thyroid checked as well?

Dear Noa, Thanks for asking but my TSH is well below normal and my T3&T4 levels are normal. I've been off the board for a while, so how are you? I hope you are a lot better than you were. Best Wishes, Jan

Hi Janet,

What a relief to at least have a name for what you have, and a few methods to help you get better.

I like the way Sari was able to differentiate between depression and hypo-active ADD so well. I'm reading another good book right now about ADD and natural remedies for it. if the books's good, I'll post it on psychobabble.

Take care, and enjoy all that Brazilian sunshine for me, Janice

I'm very happy for you.
