After taking trazadone for nearly a year, I've developed visual trails (stipes of flashing lights at the margins of my vision and a strobe-like after-image if I move my hand across my field of vision). These happen if I wake up at night or occasionally in the morning if I haven't slept quite enough. I've read the info in Psychopharmacology Tips about visual trails, but I was wondering if anyone had experience with them. Did they get worse over time? Did they go away if you stopped taking the med that caused them? (I'm a little freaked out because one of the posts in Tips equates them to visual disturbances caused by brain damage from LSD (which I've never taken). Any info much appreciated. Thanks.

Victoria, I had the same visual effects when taking Serzone when I woke up in the middle of the night. Actually, I kind of liked them (guess I'm really hard up for entertainment). They did not get worse over time. Serzone and Trazodone are chemically related, I think. I've never taken LSD either (missed my chance to get Sandoz in the 60's) and the effects stopped when I switched to Effexor-XR. I kind of miss the visual trails now though (and am afraid my pdoc will never give me a prescription for Serzone again, because I told him how much fun the visual trails were!). ;)

You guys must be really old. I am. I should go actually read the age of babblanders thread. The drug of choice these days for visual trails is Ecstasy. Thats what all the glow-in-the-dark toys at raves are about.

I got this effect on TCA's....really strange stuff going on if I woke up durring the night.
