antidepressants?

Posted by Rachel on April 19, 2000, at 9:03:48

i was diagnosed w/ depression 3 years ago, but have dealt w/ suicidal feelings for as long as i can remember. my new therapist has rec. anti depressants and i was wondering if anyone has advice? paxil or prozac are the two that she rec. highly, but i've been looking at serzone, because it helps w/ sexual problems. i have heard very bad things about withdrawing from it. i resisted taking antidepressants for years because i was afraid that i would never be able to stop taking them, but i think i'm beyond caring now.

Ahh...the virtues of prozac
Rachel: Glad to hear your taking steps towards feeling better. Don't worry now about lifetime drug taking.
I've tried all three of the drugs you mentioned and found prozac infinitly more tolerable and effective for me then the others.
Paxil caused heavy duty sex dysfunction and can have withdrawl effects in some. The serzone caused no bad side effects and not much good ones either. But it could be right for you. My biased opinion says try the prozac first.
