Hi there, I am looking at different ssri's for weight gain potential and I am curious if most people gain weight while on celexa? I also wonder if anyone has switched from paxil to celexa and found the switch positive. Any info would be helpful.

Megs - Mostly you see weight gain with any SSRI, including Celexa, but not in everyone. Each person has a different body chemistry, which makes it impossible to predict if one will gain or lose weight. I have seen a few successes switching from Paxil to Celexa, but I have also seen successes switching from Celexa to Paxil. The main thing is to give any antidepressant an adequate trial before giving up on it (6 to 8 weeks). Hope this helps - Cam W.

megs,
Sorry to tell you this, but I gained 30 lbs on Celexa. Not to say you will, everyone is different, but that was my experience. It made me have mad cravings for carbs. I recently switched to Effexor, so we'll see what happens with the weight. Good luck to you.
